Where can I get a card reader for mpc2000?

Hi,

I haven't been here in a while and need to use the MPC again for a project. I'm sure this is asked all the time but instead of searching through threads I am just going to ask: where are good places to buy card readers for the 2000 these days?

Also, in the meantime could someone tell me a good place to buy Zip discs for the unit?

OK, I'll make a very easy for everyone.

IDE - CF Adapter Bootable CF Slot
Again, this is not hot swappable card reader. A compatible CF card must be in the card reader before booting up your 2000XL, and must not removed when XL is turned on.

You can buy it here:

and the part numbers are:
ADIDECF (Ivory color)
ADIDECFB (Black color)

whichever the color you like. The difference is only the color of enclosure.

Compact Flash card
Now, you can NOT use any CF card. Most of the cheap Compact Flash card won't work with XL.

Yea, I should have specified: I have a classic, not an XL.

oh sure... yeah, if you are willing to drop 300 bucks it isn't hard finding one hahahaha... and those should work with your 1.72 boot disk just fine (which is the latest)

Well I never seem to solve this storage issue but yea that is a hefty price.

yeah I feel ya... I use floppy disks for mine. the problem with the huge sized storage devices is that you cant make use of folders. my floppy disk cases are sort of like memory cards and the floppy disks are the folders hahaha..


good luck. by the way, maybe you will run into a cheap 2000xl for the price you're willing to spend on that cf reader. those can take the 1 dollar cf to ide adapters.

Interesting. I am pretty ignorant at this point about all the possibilities. What is a cf to ide adapter? Could I then use a cheaper card reader?

The Classic has no ide port so that drive/adapter is not an option.
It also doesn't have an internal SCSI port, unless you modify it, so internal SCSI drive is not an easy option.
SCSI in an external box is the easiest way to go.

Debauch was saying I could buy a 2000xl cheap which would give me more drive options. I am not clear what those options are. Really don't want to spend $300 on an external drive for the Classic.

yeah.. dont do that. if you get a 2000xl, it will have all the same workflow (it looks almost identical actually.. the buttons where they are mapped, the stuff on the screen.. it's the same) except the 2000xl has a few extra options.... and it can take a CF to IDE adapter that plugs right in the motherboard which only costs a couple of bucks.

if you are willing to spend a few hundred, get the 2000xl... because at the end of the day, the 2000xl can create and read folders so you can really organize many beats on each CF card.

Again pardon my ignorance, but this adapter then allows me to use what device? Are there specific card readers you recommend?

It does what it say's. Allows you to use a CF card.

Ok, so this would allow for an internal card reader for the 2000xl. Next problem I am realizing is how to get my sequences and programs from my zip discs to the 2000xl. I assume this won't be possible.
