Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I've got a New triton Extreme with a midi cable comming out and going into my mpc 2000 xl midi in. When i go to open window on midi and press monitor, it's showing that the keyboard is recieving the input, like if i press a note it blinks and i can see that the signal is comming in. But NO keyboard sounds are comming out of my mpc when i press a note. I don't know what to do. I've been recording my patterns through analog, which takes forever. PLEASE HELP! :!:

this is how you should have them connected :

triton midi out > mpc midi in
allows you to record note information on the mpc while you play the keys on the triton. the note information will be stored in the mpc sequencer.

mpc midi out > triton midi in
triton audio out > mixer

as the note information is now stored on the mpc you will need to pass the data back to the triton so you can hear the sound. the actual audio will never pass through the mpc (as a midi connection is data ONLY, no audio) so you will have the connect the triton audio outputs to a mixer aswell as the mpc outputs..

at the moment, you are only recording the midi information and so when you playback on the mpc you will hear nothing as the notes are not actually triggering anything ..

does that make sense? i'm tired..

midi isn't audio. audio outs of your triton to your mixer and midi cables to and from the mpc.

What about if your not using a mixer. Whats the correct way to hook it ?

maknbeats - no problems..

dsmith - there's no way around having a mixer of some description - whether it's an actual analog mixer or even a pc souncard with multiple inputs doesn't matter but you do need a device that is able to mix several sounds at once.
