I have been using the 2k XL for a while now... not suere if this has been asked before but is it possible to create Descending ROLLING bass in a linear straight line as if you were turning a Pitch wheel on a bass modulator or Pitch effect processor.. I hear this sound alot in todays music, Dub Step.. Like Boooooooooooooooooooooom but the pitch is rolling down in frequency..... Can this be pulled off with the XL?

Single cycle sine wave, loop, assign pad to note variation slider.
Change some pad PARAMS around, I forget which but experiment and it should come around. It's been a while since I've done that on my 2kxl but I have done it before, many times in the past.

Note variation slider can be recorded in a sequence.

keep in mind the technique lamp suggested will not be continuous - it will only change pitch each time you hit the hit pad (retrigger the sound). it sounds good on toms / snares for rolls.
is that what you mean by 'rolling'?

one hacked way to do continuous is to set the resonance all the way up, set filter cutoff all the way down, turn filter envelope all the way up, and turn filter decay all the way up. you can adjust how high it goes by adjusting filter envelope.

that is probably not what you want but will do a descending pitch slide.

It's a "fake continuous" I use to call it back in the day.

The retrigger is in the loop, so you hold down the pad and it loops, thus catching the note variations anytime you move the slider.

Again, I haven't been inside my 2kxl for a while but pad params and note on experimentation was how I got it to work, along with loop on of course.

I may be overthinking it, I'll have to break out the xl later and confirm.

there is no 'retrigger' in the loop - youd have to use note repeat and have it quantised.

there is no way to affect a sample with the filter on 2kxl after the sample has started playing, unless that effect is built into the envelope.

it applies the effect*/filter at the first trigger only.

when i first got my mpc, this really bothered me, coming from computers / synths etc. i eventually just learned to work with it. hence my experimenting with envelopes

* by effect i mean filter / volume - not even bringing eb16 into this

I was over thinking it, just what I figured. It must have been something else I was doing, sorry for the confusion B.

Lamp been using that 4k too much.

Yeah, it's **** on my memory of menus. Maybe just maybe twice a
month I use my 2kxl just because I miss it. Then hoping back on the 4k or
Beatmaker 2, all the menus start to blend together and have orgies in my mind.

I should probably just shut the **** up now

was there not some kind of feature that looped/retriggered a sound until you let go of the pad?

pretty sure there was, remember doing that at some point, note repeat was not needed at all.. so you could do that to a small portion of a sample and get continuous synth tones this way

such as, and this is on the 2kxl btw

and then you just use pitch on the slider whilst holding a pad, and you get something that would mimic pitchbending

as for single cycle waveforms, there are lots here to download and play around with, however, i am not sure the mpc can actually read them all if the files are too small... and if not, you should still be able to do it within the mpc, using a larger sample - http://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/wavefor ... waveforms/

you can 'loop' a sample, but the note variation will not sweep while you hold down the pad, it only changes with each actual note on/off retrigger.

you can fake it with envelopes, but on these machines, you can only get a new note variation with each new note.

this is really important to know, as it is sort of an outdated way of working - most everything these days is realtime. as i mentioned, this really confused me coming from a computer when i took a 'step back' and went 2kxl. still, i can appreciate it, work around it, and actually enjoy it now.
