laptop/notebook recomendation

hey, i didnt know what forum would be the best so i posted here.
im going to be buying a notebook/laptop in the next few weeks. Im looking for somthing compact for travel but powerful for music. Ive already looked into a mac powerbook but ive never used a mac before and i want it for other programs too. my budget is abouts $2000 lets say.

If you go Mac just get the most powerful one you can afford, if you opt for a pc laptop go with a Centrino or Athlon 64 processor. For 2g's you should be able to find a laptop that can handle anything you throw at it.

you can give urself a pre-pat on the back if you go ahead and buy a mac...trust me their phucken dope. im using a powerbook g4 that i bought in the summer of 2001 and shits runnen strong and can do all the graphics/audio/video that my heart desires. remember a 400mghz Apple Powerbook DOES NOT equal a 400mghz PC laptop in terms of speed. the architecture of the hardware is way different so the numbers should mean a lot a less to you if you are trying to make a comparison. APPLE4LIFE.

i will only use apple for live work. 1 word reliability..

I'm in the same boat..i've never used an apple but i know they are superior when it comes to audio video.....but damn man.....you're on a $2000 budget?.....what are you trippin about?......i'm on like a $700 -$800 budget and i'm huntin for a G4...haha..... i think i might be SOL on that one......

let not start a mac/pc war but get a hp lappy (the fastest that you can afford) for about $1100 to $1300 and spend the other $700 on ram. try to get a lappy that holds 1 to 2 gig ram. you should be set.

Like mwalker said, not tryin to start a mac/pc war but the idea that macs are superior is not true anymore. You can get a pc laptop just as powerful for half the price of a mac.

its still tru buddy, i hold my ground but the war will never end as long as we only have 5 percent of the market

true if your speaking in terms of specifications
but
the MAC handle and manage the AUDIO and stuff much better than a PC
think of it as why some dont use PC for Sequencing and prefer MPC cause the MPC is PURPOSE BUILT and the PC is GENERAL PURPOSE BUILT which means the PC has to do other process things whilst it also does your music.
but a MAC does not have as many processes to do as a pc does which means more power can br dedicated to the audio side of things that being using programs like logic (handling loads of audio plugin etc)

this why macs have always had an advantage over pc's and will always be this way unless PC's can change there architecture to match up.
why do u think Pc's are so popular not because there are cheaper but the software is easier to get (FREE) MAC are a costly investment but in the end pays off.....blah blah blah i could go on for ever!

My 900.00 Athlon 64 machine out performs the G5. I've owned both macs and pc's, I don't own stock in either company so I don't care who perfers what, do what works for you.

lets not start this sh!t. can you hear the differents between music made on a pc -vs- a mac? no. they both use binary which are 1(s) and 0(s). i have always used a pc because of price. now aday you could go to compusa and get an off the shelf pc, tweak it, add ram and you are set. i am not saying a pc is better than a mac or vice verse but the extra money you do save with a pc put it towards more ram.

this pc/mac question is like cubase -vs- sonar/logic, whole wheat -vs- white, mickey d's -vs - burger king, popeye chicken -vs- kfc.

processing speed and ram is the most important thing. oh yea, a fast harddrive too.

yo penfold, if you are right why dont i have a mac. all the other hardware and software i have is top of the line why would i cut corners with a pc? alot of your info is informative but keep the mac better than pc to yourself. basically, it is just your opinion because a pc can/will/does get the job done each and everyday.

haha no doubt, i was reading an article on the new centrino mobile chips that they out perform the powerbook chips, but im not really concerned. I want a pc for the ease of it. im leaning towards a ibm thinkpad or a sony vaio. i would never buy a hp computer in my lifetime. maybe a hp printer but thats it.

why not, my last 4 computer were hp(s). never/ever had a problem. my current hp is a lappy p4, 2.8 mhz with a 1 gig of ram. runs any where from 10 to 12 vsti at a time with no freeze function. do not get locked in on the bs.

HP's used to be garbage, they can be alright now, I have a Compaq(HP) Athlon 2600+ that outperformed our Mac G4 Dual 1.25(in Macs defense more than a few people had problems with the dual 1.25 from what I've heard). Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying Macs aren't great machines, they are, I'm just sayin that regardless of what people may think, pc's (built the right way, flowers pre built pc's) perform just as well if not better for much less. As far as Macs go, they're prettier, easier to get around in, and a lil less prone to problems with viruses and will usually work right out of the box with whatever gear you want to use em with. PC's are finicky bastards and pre built pc's are usualy built with garbage parts.

ive just heard tons of problems with hp's as computers, but yeah not recently. i will look into one
