I've heard good things about rme, motu, focusrite, apogee. Any models in particular that should be taken into consideration :hmmm:

Price range 100-300
USB or Firewire
Mic Pre-amp
Not interested in other I/Os outside of monitors plugs

Let me know what's good

the focusright stuff is nice I was playing with them a bit today at the shop here. Im getting 2x MOTU 8pre... I was looking at the A&H zed r16 but realized I dont really need it (at the moment)

the focusright ish is nice though... if it had a -20db switch on it Id probably jump on those.

if your interested in a 8channel interface/mixer with motorized faders and ish like that theres the tascam fw1884...

at that price point get a tc electronics impact twin.

it has a super dope reverb included that you can use in your software, and it also has a nice lpf, and a usable compressor and a few other fx. you can also run it to your stereo mix of whatever you have coming through, just for fun.

the place it really shines is i that you dont have to have it connected to your computer to be able to run your audio through it. so say you have your sampler stereo outs going to input 1/2 on it, then the outputs of the interface going to your monitors... as long as its on, whenever you play your sampler, it will play out your monitors even without hooking up the firewire connection on your comptuer. this is really nice for just jamming out on your mp or whatever without having to be tethered to your computer.

the mic pre's are also phenomenal imo, they are very clean sounding, and i would even record vocals on them. in the past i have been spoiled by using some more higher end mic pres' (avalon 737sp, grace m101) to record vocals with, and i would still use these on an album and be fine with it.

this thing is also built like a tank and the knobs and inputs are super heavy duty feeling.
