And I'm never getting another white model again. I did it w/ my MKII and that sh!t got filthy. And I'm not one of those slob dudes who eats while making beats so I have no idea how it got dirty. I also don't smoke week anymore so I can only imagine how horrible some of the bluntheads look like from resin fingers.

Multicore support, color screen, mixer, etc...good job N.I. and the damn thing is sexy as hell. N.I. will sell a lot of these. Maschine Studio with Komplete 9 and your good to go to make any kind of music.

I'm still a little amazed at how all of the sudden the Ren is viewed as inferior. Yes, the the software needs major work, but the hardware is extremely solid and doesn't need to be changed (okay, maybe an updated display screen). I've never liked the build quality of Maschine and hate the sequencer, but maybe Maschine Studio is of a better build quality. Either way competition is good. Now both companies have to come correct.

As this thread shows, people are quick to jump on the latest thing. Gonna be hard for Akai to keep up if they don't bring their software up to date asap. Here's hoping development of the MPC Ren continues and is not abandon like Akai has done with their products in the past. I for one, prefer the Ren and want to see it reach its max potential.

Things always roll out slowly with them.

For now all they hold is their workflow.
Though I enjoy the Akai workflow I just seem to make better music on the Maschine and thats the reason why I keep using it.

you gotta salute NI for stepping up their game and going with a forward thinking approach.. this is what a real update should look like and Akai should feel rightfully ashamed their product still feels like beta software and they don't even seem to have a clear idea where they're headed even going backwards by crippling their software, sideways by unlocking it.. etc etc

hardware wise it's a different story.. i personally find the maschine studio design to be overkill and still those shitty gum control buttons, also no audio in/outs, no usb hub and 3 midi outs vs 4 on ren.. the color screen and VU meter are definitely sick though..

in the end as others have mentioned, they are different products with different workflows & even though the MPC formula & concept might appear dated next to maschine's slick & futurisitc environment.. i think it definitely still holds appeal, akai just need to pony up and implement/fix most of what people been complaining about and throw in a couple new features. for their next product i think they should have a hybrid with standalone hardware mode, have it sync to your computer like an ipad.. now that could be the maschine-killer..

Ren has always been behind, it's just now this hardware and update prevent the fanboy elite from misdirecting peoples comments.
There is no way a device designed to be an MPC with the computer doing the heavy lifting should require so many functions. Be done from the computer.
That is really counter productive in so many ways.

Also it's not about jumping to the newest thing it's about concrete evidence that Akai still doesn't get it.

I wouldn't say the Akai workflow is dated, it's more like it's broken.
They had already invented the wheel they just needed migrate it from dedicated hardware to computer hybrid.

They were so caught up in marketing and getting it to the streets thst they dropped the ball by making that more important than the actual product.

The real question is what now?

the problem is nukai aren't innovators.. they've just been rehashing roger linn's 1988 design over & over again, doing the minimum to keep up with technology, cutting corners and introducing bugs/latency in a once rock solid platform.. roger recently commented on nukai as rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.. a prophecy that might hold true if akai don't react in a significant way.. not holding my breath..
