The New Maschine Studio: NI just BODIED the Renaissance.....

Looks lovely at first glance, really slick but then the longer I think about it the more I'm less enthusiastic about the studio hardware.

The major factor is the jog wheel but even then I woudn't spend a 1k for for what is effectively an expensive midi controller.

Now everyone is raving about the screens, and I was like it was neat too but then what is the point?. I have a laptop HD screen which does exactly that and is probably much better in terms of displaying the information. At the moment from what has been glanced it just looks fancy but nothing terribly which I'm going to miss.

Again 1k for a midi controller!!!

I'm more looking forward to the software update for my mk1, still love maschine which has grown on me recently but yeah if the maschine studio was standalone it be a much different story.

I was pulled in by the initial sex appeal of the controller, admittedly.

Now I am back to my senses....and giving it a good breather before I pull the trigger on it. I NEED legit MIDI implementation...and it does appear to have that at first glance..

I'm also pissed they haven't addressed the multi-timbral support. I am certain this will be addressed in future roll-outs.

Oh, in other news..... Jah is over on the NI thread on MK S dropping his laundry list of feature requests for the Maschine S that are already implemented on the Ren LOL

As an owner of the MKI and knowing how Maschine handles chopping...it's is surreal that he would even consider this feature of any significance to a Maschine user.

In addition, he is calling people out over there for speculating and not pulling the trigger and buying it LOL

well looks wise.. great, the controller is very nice (price aside)

I think the real thing here is the new software and by looking at what they added, it gives a sort of feel about the path they are heading. (and we can assume there is a path, since NI tends to make great and very usable instruments)


now, things like unlimited fx, this to me is a very good direction.. with multi core as well? this is more important than meters on a controller, colour screens (which doesn't make you sonically capable of anything different than before) but limiting things like how many fx you can use really was an absolute no in my book. That doesn't mean it wasn't usable, but it made me say 100% I was using something else.

That being said, im still not using this new maschine to make music... but im on a different page than that.... but adding that type of stuff helps get rid of the immediate "**** no".

I'm not planning on making music on it either but fortunately my GF only uses Maschine to make music so we will be getting it for her so I can at least mess around with it in person

very impressive… and this is why I waited on buying the Ren or the older Maschines.
This will be my next purchase… only after I ask wifey if I can get it.

I was going to buy an MPC Studio and now that they dropped the price I probably will. I got a maschine Mk2 about a month ago. Am I happy with it? HELL YEAH!!!!! It has made working a lot easier. I still have my vintage gear but I can create a track quickly in Maschine. Im only considering the MPC studio because I want to give akai a chance.

I agree with Crossings to a certain extent but it comes back to this!

The whole point of going with software is to expand upon what's already been done.

It's like asking for an acoustic guitar with a new innovative approach.
Guitar makers typically have a core set of models and all they do is change the colors or make a slight modification or release a signature "Insert Famous Artist Name Here".

It works for their business but I can't see that working for a sampler.

I agree with this to a certain extent as well and that's why I feel that if you are making traditional boom bap or sample based Hip-Hop, all of this fancy pants stuff looks really cool but it's completely unnecessary and that's why I'm not buying any of it. I'm good with a 1000 with JJOS. Sh!t, if I had an MPC 60, or even an SP1200, I'd rock out with that.

Do you really NEED 9GBs of drums and every plugin under the sun to make a good track? If so, you are doing it wrong.

I can bet you that NI improved the pads from mk1. They took all the Ren's requests and bundled it into the Studio Why did Akai made an Element? The software is not even a best seller and they wasted resources that should have been into the Ren. Photoshop went Element too but at least that was stable and selling.

Nah it hasn't been confirmed yet...

Still wait and see...but if it was addressed, I would think it would be pretty big news from them considering one of the biggest boons to this would be better functionality of another one of their products (Kontakt) within Maschine.

Just makes sense to me.

You don't need 9gb of drums but having over 9gbs of sounds from VSTs is awesome!
Having all your plugins available while making a beat is sweet.

So tell that to No ID, SkiBeatz, Justice League, !llMind, Marco Polo, and the long list of producers who use more than just an MPC.
