mpc 1000 power cord?

i just got an mpc 1000 and it seems theres no ground on the power cord. is there normally? id imagine so...and is it unsafe to use without the ground? should i buy a new cord from mpcstuff or is there a cheaper alternative?

There's a good chance you might have one of those cables lying around anyway from some old piece of electronics.

If it fits in the MPC power jack, it'll work. It's a standard connector/cable.

ok thanks, i wasn't sure if it had any specific requirements or anything i figured it was the standard television set cable.

is it bad that the previous owner was running without the ground prong?

thing also reeks of smoke, both cigarrets and weed. like i mean reeks. i smoke weed but not cigs. i gave it a good cleaning and its better but im not too happy about that. once i buy the pad upgrade and buttons ill see how it looks inside.

cant you clean the motherboard and whatever parts with 99% isopropyl? im pretty sure i've heard of people doing that to clean motherboards after smoke or accidental spills.

He was probably either doing it because his outlet didn't have a third prong (not common nowadays), or because he was trying to solve some ground loop issue. Which this is not the right way to solve that.

I mean, it's not likely that anything bad would happen without the ground, but it's just a free extra layer of protection, so why not use it.
(fyi, what the ground cable does mostly is protect in the case of the live AC electricity somehow coming into contact with the metal casing of the device. Without the ground connection, if that happened, you could get a deadly shock from touching the electrified casing. The ground wire is connected inside the device to the metal housing, so that instead the AC current would short to ground, tripping a breaker, rather than shocking you)

thanks for the info man. i did do a quick google search but most things said its a bad not to use one. but then i found some that said it usually wont matter, so i figured id ask here.

by the way, do you have the stock mpc1000 samples? would you care to share them? im uploading my 23GB of samples (the drive in the MPC is SOOO SLOWWW) but im afraid all of the note/bpm info wont be put into the mpc making it difficult to make songs.
