The pads are brilliant on the mk1, finger drumming is a breeze on it.

Anyway, if I was given a studio I wouldn't say no but personally its kinda overkill for what it is. Again if it was a standalone my mind would be blown.

Having all your plugins available while making a beat is sweet.

So tell that to No ID, SkiBeatz, Justice League, !llMind, Marco Polo, and the long list of producers who use more than just an MPC.

All of these producers made their names (and some amazingly ridiculous beats) when they were using the most basic equipment. No ID (ASR), SkiBeatz (SP 1200), !llMind (ASR), Marco (MPC). And there is an equally long list of producers that use just an MPC and nothing else (Pete Rock, Kev Brown, etc.). Is it sweet to have 9gb of drums and VSTs and plugins in front of you when you are making a beat, possibly, but highly unnecessary. Unskilled beatmakers are using all of this technology as a crutch nowadays. Also, I'm sure that any of the producers that you named could make a banger with a pencil and two cups. If you think that No ID really needed Maschine to make DOA, you're crazy. He could have made that with a 4 track recorder. For instance, "Stan" was made on an s950 tracked to tape with 5 tracks and all of the drums were on one track. And the man who made it, 45 King, admitted that he uses the same drums over and over again.

At the end of the day, I don't care what anyone uses to make their music. As long as you are having fun and making good music, that's all that matters. The point is, you don't have to buy every new thing that drops because it's the "new thing". Ask yourself, "do I really need this and how is it going to make my music better?"

I've used a similar analogy to yours many times before, and I've got gear ranging from a few years up to 40+ years old. I don't think I've ever bought a piece of gear based on the longevity before though. Certainly not a software based product anyway.

I thought I was getting the deal of the century when I bought the Komplete and Kore bundle, then a month later they released a new Komplete and dropped all support for Kore. It's the prettiest controller I've never used.

Akai are incompetent whereas NI are ruthless. In saying that, I think you'd get a solid 5 years use out of the Studio.

For those pre-ordering Maschine studio....

Guitar center has a promo code that isn't on their site that is for 10% off. 99 off of studio and 60 off of the MK2.
The code is:

RMN10

just a heads up for those early adopters. it is good until 1/1/14 according to the site I found it on. I checked it and it worked for me. No reason to pay $999 when you can pay $899!

Props to TramaBeats for this

Guys, it's awesome to see your reactions to Maschine 2.0 and Maschine Studio here.

Before I left Native Instruments to pursue Oscillicious and BeatCleaver, I was actually part of the software development team working on Maschine 2.0. NI always does a very good job at keeping things secret until it's ready to ship, and I'm relieved that Maschine 2.0 is finally coming out and I'm looking forward to playing with it. It looks like the team did a great job at wrapping up what we started, and I hope Akai throws down and pushes the MPC to next level too.

When there's big competition like this, it forces companies like these to innovate, and as a result, we all get better music production tools. It doesn't matter whether you're an MPC or Maschine fan - we're all gonna win in the long run because of great products like this.

You can guarantee there will be plenty on ebay when noobs struggle to get more than a 2 bar loop out of it.

No ID's DOA is a basic track. Basic but dope I must add.
He's made albums completely produced by him.
Some tracks with record samples and some without but with VST's which cannot be done with just and SP or an ASR.

And personally if I was to compare some of the producers you have mentioned to what their using now... Personally I think they make better music now.

No ID for example. Is way more versatile than ever before.
Compare him now to his days when he was just producing for Common...

Same goes for !llMind.
I prefer the !llMind we hear these days to what we heard before when he just used an ASR.

Marco Polo hasnt just used the MPC. As far as I know dating back to his first album he's used an MPC 2K and Ableton together.

I understand that the gear doesnt make the producer but it certainly does help a great musician who knows what they are doing.

Nice. :smoker:

How do you rate the chopping in it?

Haha, well... there's a limit to what I can say, but the slicing interface wasn't done when I left, so you guys know as much as I do on that one. The website says you can have overlapped slices now, but I was never a fan of slicing with the hardware. I always thought using a mouse was 10 times faster for that. (Don't get me wrong though, I love using the hardware for certain parts of the workflow, but definitely not chopping.)

We'll have to see really how much of an improvement the chopping features are over the ones in Maschine 1 though. If I had to gamble, I'd say you won't regret using BeatCleaver though. Are there any videos showing the slicer in Maschine 2.0 yet?

I don't think so, but one article mentions that manipulating samples with the new hardware is excellent.

Did you get your hands on the hardware while you were still there? :)

Now I am back to my senses....and giving it a good breather before I pull the trigger on it. I NEED legit MIDI implementation...and it does appear to have that at first glance..

got this over at GS from some dude...

MIDI I/O per channel strip. Looks good!

I'm also pissed they haven't addressed the multi-timbral support. I am certain this will be addressed in future roll-outs.

Oh, in other news..... Jah is over on the NI thread on MK S dropping his laundry list of feature requests for the Maschine S that are already implemented on the Ren LOL

"Insert/Remove slices by clicking on waveforms" BWAHAHAHAAHA

As an owner of the MKI and knowing how Maschine handles chopping...it's is surreal that he would even consider this feature of any significance to a Maschine user.

In addition, he is calling people out over there for speculating and not pulling the trigger and buying it LOL

Better pic of mixer....

Explicit- wrote:Beyond a 4K, 2500 with JJOS, and/or an MV 8800 I don't see a standalone machine being any more advanced than updating the screens and memory storage.

What's the point?

The whole point of going with software is to expand upon what's already been done.

It's like asking for an acoustic guitar with a new innovative approach.
Guitar makers typically have a core set of models and all they do is change the colors or make a slight modification or release a signature "Insert Famous Artist Name Here".

It works for their business but I can't see that working for a sampler.

the point for me is, sometimes i want a new workflow to take my music in different directions, and just have a different mindset when im creating music. sometimes switching it up is all the difference between wanting to make a beat, and just thinking about how i could be making a beat. it would be nice to have an updated modern sampler to do it with, and i dont want to be tied to a computer to do it.
im at a point where i cant go back and use a 2kxl or an sp1200 because older samplers are too limiting for me. i have been spoiled by the 2500/1k jjos, and i rely too heavily on the features that those give me.
if this maschine was standalone, i would probably def buy it, if they finally fixed the global choke groups problem, it would pretty much be a day 1 buy, providing i had the money at the time.
also, like someone else said, i cant even use a lot of this new software because im still running 10.5.8 on my mac, and everything i use to make music is running stable. logic works without crashing, so im happy. im not about to take the risk of updating my OS to find out that my programs crash now.
one of my old teachers still runs protools 5 on an old mac because it works rock solid. if its aint broke dont fix it.
