Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By mv186 Mon Dec 06, 2004 4:16 pm
Hello all,

I am trying to install a 250mb zip into my 2000xl and I am at the part where I install the jumper. Problem is the jumper has an attachment already and it has 2 wires going to a small board located behind where the floppy was. Now the attachment where I should be putting the jumper doesn't seem to want to come off like it is glued on or something can someone please advise. Every number I have called for akai support has no clue.

I wouldn't pull it off cause you might damage your drive.

What the heck is the small board doing there? You should
have an Iomega 250mb zip, there is no small board attachment
of any sort, the jumper is not glued on at all.

If you can get it off without breaking it, try the single drive setting
for the jumper.

lamdog,

Thanx but I think I explained it wrong. The 2pins closest to the 4pin power connecter is where I am supposed to put the jumper. Those 2pins have a connection on them already. that connection has 2 wires that are attached to another connection that is snaps onto a small board located behind where the floppy drive used to be, before I removed it. Now I can unsnap the connection at the small board behind where the floppy was intern making that the jumper I suppose? What is a jumper anyway?

that jumper tells the mpc that the zip is a MASTER DRIVER OR A SLAVE DRIVE... you need it to tell the MPC that it's a MASTER DRIVE.... i think... maybe lampdog can clear that one up... I am pretty sure that's what it is...

Hey guys,

Thanx alot I got it fixed. But now "of course" there is another problem. The mpc is not detecting a zip drive. In the load screen it keeps saying no floppy device detected. I scroll on the device area and zip is not an option only scsi and f-rom. Please advise

AW and BB are right man.

On your LOAD screen you should be able to choose ATAPI,that is your ZIP.
You will keep getting the NO FLOPPY error until you get the jumper
settings for the zip correct though. I went through the SAME thing when I
first got mine but it was a quick fix.. Not major at all..
