What I would like to see AKAI developing is a global mixer with plenty of channels (let's say 99 atleast?). Now add a possibility to freely route a track to any of these channels. No more problems with mixing during the beat making process, and still those who want to have different channels for different sequences, can route them as they wish.

It's starting to seem like this mixer we have right now is so hard coded, that it might need a complete re-write to function as a global one. I must say that I'm eager to find out how the Maschine 2.0 mixer will function on this part, though I've just learned to enjoy the MPC workflow and I'm not that eager to start learning a new one again with Maschine...

Sounds great. As long as the MPC Software retains linear style recording and keeping the option of treating sequences as independent compositions instead of just a bunch of 8-16 bar related loops you string together in Song Mode.

Yeah, everything else would and should be kept the same. Routing the tracks freely would suit to your workflow also as you're able to route tracks of the sequences as you wish.

But AGAIN: one of the big problems is that one Sequence can't have multiple Time Signatures and BPMs in itself.

So let's say I make a Song in Song Mode with multiple Sequences using different Time Signatures and/or BPMs, and then Bounce the Song into a super long Sequence to mix it in Track Mixer, my Sequence won't work properly (it will use the BPM of the first Sequence of the Song...).

The method of making one long Sequence just doesn't work at all. For MANY reasons.

Having a Global Mixer would solve all those issues.

If a Global Mixer isn't possible (and I know at that point Akai won't even CONSIDER it), at least, please Akai, consider this: if a Song is made of Sequences using different BPMs, could they please be considered when Exporting the Song into a long Sequence, please?

Thanks.

Well this is one aspect of the software that should change as Tempo changes could be inserted into sequences.

As far as the Time Signatures....I will have to look into this when I get home as I am not well-versed on using Time Signatures (always keep it on 4/4). So how does hardware MPCs behvave when you convert multiple sequences with different time signatures into a single sequence?

On the 1000, there is no problem because you can determine a time signature per bar within a Sequence.

(All you need to do is highlight the "Tsig: 4/4" area, click on it, then you can simply modify the time signature per bar.)

There is already a Global mixer it's just incomplete. Submixes. They just need inserts, maybe some metering, and more of them (possibly 128?).

Perhaps a workaround that Akai could more quickly program than changing the whole mixer structure would be to have a checkbox at the top of the Track Mixer window that tells the software how to apply your edits - only on the current sequence if unchecked (like it operates now) or across the same track in all sequences if it is checked (like a global mixer).

I don't know how everyone works, but I use the same program structure across sequence tracks within any given song. So if sequence 1 has kit 4 assigned to track 4, then so does sequence 7. So I might take 8 kits and assign them to tracks 1-8 in sequence 1, and then use that same structure in any other sequences of the song (which is easily done by copying sequences).

So in this scenario (which to me is easy to work with and keeps things organized) a global checkbox for edits to apply across the same track number in all sequences would work. Or am I missing some things? Obviously it would also be nice to have virtual outs, etc.

Thanks,

Or another idea would be to have an option in whichever sequence you are mixing in the Track Mixer to (after the whole mix is set up within that sequence the way you want it) to copy this mix across all sequences. A window could even come up asking which sequences you would like to copy the mix to. This way you could get a great mix going on a sequence and its tracks with things you want in common across the whole song, quickly dup it to all the other sequences, and then go in and mix with it like it is now, fine tuning things for each sequence that do need to be different per sequence.

Or Akai should simply discard the thinly veiled midi mixer (which is what it is) and write a proper one designed for audio. Theres nothing wrong with your suggestions but their work arounds and I would be concerned if anything like that were implemented it would stay.

If we must have an option then it should simply be use Global mixer - yes or no. There are 2 people in the universe who would choose not to use the global mixer..

The current system should never have even made it past the very first Beta Test day. Im still amazed they put it out with such a convoluted system. But then again, I also think that speaks volumes about what is going on the heads of Akais coding team, or is that marketing team?. And also - no headroom - just volume up to MAX on every single sound. There is only one way to go from there. Abysmal metering is another one.

Akai gives me the option to use all my VSTs - but totally fail to provide a proper mixer so that I can actually use them to mix a song in combination with the next seq feature.

The mixer really needs a total rewrite.
The problem there is the marketing jobbos cant say much about that

Ren VER 1.6 AKai Press Release
A Standard Global Mixer. Just like the ones you have known for 70 years.

But -on the other hand:
Ren VER 1.6 AKai Press Release
MP3 Import/Export - for all your stolen music downloads
Super Duper Auto Splice and Time Jobby
Cant Count - A BPM Plugin With Blue LEDS!
Skins - Dont like gray? Go for one of our six amazing new colour schemes
The 809 - Our pointless VST has a new colour and 4 new kits
8gb of new, but same old sounds you will probably never use

Its that kind of sh** which can prevent real features from appearing in the Ren/Studio. A mixer isnt sexy for marketing - but a Super Duper Auto Splice and Time Jobby is..

Labcoats, you nailed it. Big up.

I ALWAYS feel like the basic fundamental stuff that were always available on older machines, like the 1000 for instance, aren't available on this new "superior" machine (Step Edit, Time Signature per bar in Sequences, being able to copy Songs, being able to rearrange Tracks, etc.!). I'm CONSTANTLY working around, and working around.

They always implement features that I don't care about, or that I don't even START to understand, while so many important basic, fundamental stuff needs to be made/repaired, before all the fancy stuff! Please!

I hear you guys.

I have actually only had the Ren for a few days, and am loving it. But I was throwing down some beats today and things were too loud - I went in and saw everything at max, no headroom, no command-clicking or something on an effect to temporarily disable it, no master fader (could be missing things as I just got it) for the whole project besides the knob below, no db metering to see how much I was going over. Also little things like copying a sequence and not being able to rename it in the hardware which forces extra trips back and forth. So hopefully looking forward to a proper mixer and some of the little tidbits that keep coming with each update that make workflow better.

Dude. This is just the start. Trust me. "Also little things like copying a sequence and not being able to rename it in the hardware which forces extra trips back and forth." WHAT A BI_CH!

No ByPass buttons on the the Plug-Ins, etc.

HELL.

Didnt read the whole thread but from a glance younwant to add another mixer in the mpc "global/master" mixer that is sperated from patterns ...

Woulnt it be more simple to just have a ALL option on the mixer.. So when you say need to pump up a little volum in one of the programs in the mixer you simply click all and the adjustments goes across the board ...

...someone has alread pointed this out in this thread but it seams to still be plowing for a completely new mixer ..

My vote would be for a simple global/all option for the current mixer...instead of a new global mixer... Keep it simple..
