recording program changes FROM midi device

hi. i'd like to know if anyone knows a way of sending the program/bank data to the MPC rather than having to manually select it.

say you have a track in midi mode and select the midi output... then select your program on the synth/drum machine then record all is fine but in order for that sequence to load up the correct program you have to save that info into the track.

BUT its a little long winded and confusing with the bank names being named 0 = 1 and the bank MSB/LSB etc...

can you somehow send the program data from the synth/drum machine to the track?

I will look into what you are trying to accomplish.

But....what is 'long winded' regarding how the MPC Ren sends bank changes? It's nearly identical to every MPC. In the software, it's staring you right in the face....and you simply need to use the [Window] button to access the banks.

On a side note, various synth manufacturers use different program change ranges. Some use program change 1-128. And others use 0-127. The Ren uses 0-127 to change synth programs.

Please explain this function more.

I don't know about recording program changes to the Ren but to send one you simply set your MIDI track up and select the correct bank/program number. It will change while you are setting it. If you want a different patch you can change the settings in the next sequence and when you change sequences the patch should change as well.

Anyone ever find out if the ren will recieve program/bank changes? sending the program changes from ren to a module (ie yamaha motif) via midi, i understand how to do but sending the changes from module to ren would be easier since the rens changes are numbered vs having the names of each patch in the module. Thanks

...Man thanks, but i am actually not looking to record changes and update changes after a the track is completed...... what I'm trying to figure out is this:
as i turn the dial on my motif xs6 keyboard to change the patch i want the Ren to acknowledge this change on the track. Right now I can change the program/patch on the Ren and it will send the change to the Motif but I need this to work the other way around..... The reason for this is that the Ren doesn't have names of each patch and its easier to choose my program/patches on the motif by name than to scroll through them on the Ren using msb/lsb numbers. hope i have explained this clearly.... i hope there is hope
