they're also very likely to become damaged over time... google "click of death" and then decide if you really want to start investing in a bunch of zip disks.

I think he already might have an internal Zip drive in his 2KXL, if not then he at least has an external Zip drive.

Zips are not that bad, as long as you keep a backup of everything somewhere else, for when they do f-up. But you should be doing that anyway, no matter what storage medium you use.

He was looking for a cheap card reader for it, and I maybe could have helped out, as I have 10 unused CompuApps ATAPI 741 multicard readers sitting here in a box, but he didn't bother replying to me in the other thread. Oh well, he will probably end up with a non-hotswap CF reader from the UK, as that is what was being recommended to him in that thread.

What state are you in?

I might be able to put together a kit for you, if not comfortable with the DIY aspects yourself.

Would need to see a photo of the inside of your MPC though, to determine what needs to be done with the internal Zip/floppy power cable, in terms of what sort of connection it has on it at the moment.

Do you have an internal Zip drive in your MPC, or is it a floppy drive?

Can you do without the internal drive power cable for a few days, while you send it here for me to modify, if required, and then send it back to you?

Would probably cost you $40 for the reader, plus postage, plus cost price of ribbon cable connectors and cable from Jaycar, along with the correct power connector if I need to buy that, and a few mounting screws or bolts/nuts.

I have one at work, and a couple here, that I need to do, and need to sort out the mounting of these drives for myself anyway.

No probs, not close enough to do it in person, will have to be via the mail.

Once you do receive your MPC, I would need to see a photo sort of like this, which shows the floppy drive inside the MPC at the lower right, and the types/lengths/etc. of the existing cables that connect it to the MPC mainboard...

If you need directions on which screws to remove to get the bottom panel off, just ask when the time comes.

Just be careful of the power supply in the upper right of the photo, do not do this while the MPC is plugged into the power, and avoid touching anything in that area while working on it anyway.
