cool, yeah im cool with that, ill probalby end up chopping a gameboy sample i have been meaning to flip for a year or so

how do you feel about "reuglar" drums too? i think people should be able to use them, cause sound designing 8 bit ones could be pretty tough for some people (including myself).

at the end, if everyone sends me a 16 bit 44.1 .wav file of their mixed beat i would be down to do a psudeo-mastering of them all and get the levels right from track to track.

also i might even be able to help with the mixing on a couple tracks if some people are having real troubles in that respect, i dont want to have to end up mixing a lot of stuff though, but i have faith that a lot of people on here have the ability to mix their own stuff too.

yeah sounds good... and yes, for sure 100% real drums and not just chopping an NES break (hahahaha).

hopefully i will come up with something.

too bad the guy who used to post here a few years back called mpc3500 wasn't around.. he used the 5000 (I think he was given one by akai or some shit) and he made fantastic hip hop beats like we're talking about. He posted his beats on the forum and he was a cool guy.

we gonna need more than 3 beats though haha.

Definitely real drums and other 16 bit stuff. I'd used such in both tracks I've posted in this thread - main 8 bit samples are from trackers and the rest is from vinyl.

mr_debauch wrote:yeah 16 bit too... because the bits are less of a factor on the audio side... it has more to do with the synth built into the console and the audio chip it has... none of them have audio files stored on board with the exception of actual samples such as voice clips.

yeah. in fact, some the sound chips used were pretty much analog.
The C64 SID chip I think had 16-bit oscillators, which could be run through its characteristic analog filter.
The NES squarewave generators were clocked (effectively their sample rate) at like 1.8MHz - mega, not kilo. That's an order of magnitude larger than 192Khz, the highest you see normally.
The Atari POKEY chips I'm pretty sure were basically analog oscillators.

it's just the fact that the audio was generated real-time, which could most simply be done with squarewaves and other basic waveforms, plus pseudo-random noise.

I, for one, enjoy the raw sound of basic waveforms. :)

^ yes exactly... and the genesis is done the same way with FM synthesis...

many people hate the way the genesis sounded, but good programmers could do insane shit with that... and it was rare. I actually loved the metallic wailing the machine did.

people can program crappy music on any system. you're right, it's all up to the coders to make awesome tunes.

man, this is such a fantastic soundtrack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6moKUGH2 ... D23A947128

I'll get something in soon. Just checking my old 8bit collection. Just found Sky-Kid, Blaster Master, River City Ransom, Mighty Final Fight, Duck Tales, Nemo Dream Master, and lots more. I bought a $20 NES bootleg the size of a small paperback novel and it play all the games

^^^thats dope,

i was thinking that tracks dont necessarily have to sample video games, but it is def encouraged. so if you guys have a dope 8 bit synth patch, dont be afraid to submit a beat that just uses that.

on that note, i found this stuff; synths and drums inspired by commadore 64:

here is the drums: http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2009/04 ... -drum-kit/
