I'm back!

Hey all, i'm back! After selling my MPC1000 for a MV8000 i can now say that the MV suck balls! I then bought a MPC2000xl and must say that it's the most rock solid feel ever. From the build to the super fast workflow.

what os were you using with the 1k? anything you miss from the more modern approach?
i could really use usb connectivity.

i often think a 1k with jj is just as / more powerful than an xl.

if i had to replace right now, i would look for a 2.5k with jj solely for the extra midi ports + sliders.

@ Tapedeck: The usb connection on a mpc1000 is nothing more then the pc/mac reading your cf card or harddisk inside your mpc. If you've got a cardreader in your mpc2000(xl) it's exactly the same, except you'll have to swap your card between your pc/mac and your mpc.

I also think the 2000xl feels (and sounds) a lot better then the 1000. Only thing i really miss that the 1000 has is being able to record while playing a sequence (maybe jjos only, not sure).

I bought an mpc 2000xl this week, all maxed out, 32 ram, fx card, 8outs, hot-swap cf cardreader inside reading every cf card i own. So, I'm very happy with it. I guess I'm back too.

yea i know that - and i dont have my cardreader here

i really dislike the 1k pads doubling as function buttons.

believe me, i have nothing but love for the xl, i can just appreciate a few modern workflow enhancements.

The MPC1000 is a great machine, but has (in my opinion) a rather dull sound. I have tried all the OS'es and must say that i loved JJOS2, but it tends to make the sequencer a bit slubby when working on bigger projects. I have also owned the MPC500 and must say that is a neat little beast. The 12 pads are fantastic for tonal work as it corresponds to one octave. A thing i missed on the 1000 was the velocity to samplestart, no OS'es for it does that and i used it alot on the 500.
You will get used to the pads double role as function buttons, no biggie.
But the XL feels "real" if you know what i mean, i love the simplicity but would wish that it had the FX expansion or the ability to send say 100% of one sound to the stereo out and for example 20% of that sound to another output which could have a reverb or delay on it.

there is the fx expansion, eb16.

you can also totally route this using the 8-outs. thats something i like about the xl is that even with the 8 outs, the pads can still go to the mains

there's no return, of course, but in that case you could use the internal fx card and its reverb.

welcome back eimer. i just returned recently with an MPC2000 that I've been repairing. I'm waiting on a friend to bring me another 2000, so I can use all the best parts to have one solid unit, and see what's left of the other afterwards.

I don't miss my MPC1000 much at all. Even after 7-8 years, I always felt cramped with the size of the pads. The 2000 is where it all started for me back in 1997. I love the feel of it much better with the full size pads and the whole layout. I prefer the sound of the converters on the 2000 as well.
As far as not having a JJ OS machine, I'm ok with that, as I'd rather keep it simple and still bangin'.

Thanks all, and good to hear from you again DistortedTechno. Do any of you know a workarround for resampling in the 2000xl? Right now i'm using a casette deck .

I suppose you could get a roland or boss SP or something like that... because you can sample your mpc into that and back into the mpc but add fx or EQ a sound etc..

tape deck works too...

actually if you had an sp303 or something you could sequence it from the mpc which works really damn well with the 2000.

When I was trying to choose which MPC I was going to get, lack of function key and number keys on 1000 was deal breaker. (I even wish that 2000XL had function keys like MPC-60, 3000, and 4000.) MPC-2500, which has number keys, was more expensive than XL, so I settled with 2000XL w/ 8-out. I guess I made a right choice for me.

Interestingly, I kind of hated 2000XL's sound, it sounded so "cold" to me! But now I kind of like the way it sound, strangely.
It was harder to get used to 2000XL than Electribe ES-1 (maybe I should not compare with XL, but Electribe is indeed intuitive machine), but now I'm very familiar with XL, I can understand why people still use old MPCs.

Do you have the 8 out expansion for the 2kxl? If I remember correctly, that should work. Funny thing was that I was just thinking about that the other day, but didn't get around to it.
