Yeah, I don't know him from Adam.

That's because he's a mix engineer. He has mixed 10 of Jay Z's albums (what he's known for). I remember an interview with him a few years ago stating that he just produces on the side, all of his time is taken up by mixing albums for artists.

thats entirely possible but i have to say, u just have to be a jackass sometimes... if he is still with akai this is a really bad look. Endorsements just dont wok that way. if he's not with akai anymore...well, in the words of Slum Village "Get Dis Money!"

Many major producers have a team of people working for them. On Michael Jacksons albums, there was a ton of people that worked on the project. You have people that tweak/create sounds to drum programmers who simply tighten the groove up a litte. Heck many times you had a seperate producer who works the vocals (some of them Ive met can flat out blow but they dont have a contract because they dont fit the image of an artist). There is a reason some of the tracks you here sound so good. They have been worked by some skilled people over time. Dont believe for a second timbaland does everything by himself. They normally rent out an entire studio and are working on several projects at a time. Babyface has had 5 rooms booked at one time going from room to room working on music. One may be cutting the vocals, the other guitars while the other could be mixing.

The up and coming producer will focus on one specific piece of gear that the marketing machine tells him he has to have. Truth be told its really you. I always tell those I mentor that having 100 tracks doesnt make you great. Creative yes, but not great. Having one track that has creativity plus excellence, along with some luck (i call it favor) will get you the deal. The gear never will. If Young Guru is jumping ship, if I had a ren I wouldnt. He is getting his for free along with a big check.

Seems a bit ironic that a mix engineer would have such close involvement with a product with a dodgy mixer.

Someone of his standing would probably require a decent payment to be tied into a lengthy deal, and as Akai likes to penny pinch, they probably just paid him for the videos and gave him a free Ren. It's not really in the same league as if Tiger Woods gets spotted wearing Adidas when he's contracted to Nike.

Wow, say what you want about YG gettin' the money, but it sure must feel awkward for Akai when the dude who STILL shows up in their CURRENT promo and instructional videos, goes on record for the competition in an add saying, "MASCHINE IS ALL I NEED". Kinda like Stevie J tellin' Joseline, "yeah girl you know I got love for ONLY you", while still tryin' to get in mimi's pants - smh :P . .
