Are you saying that's what you currently do or how the unlimited groups will be implemented?

Unless you use the Maschine live I don't see why unlimited groups is not as good as pad banks. :hmmm:

because the groups only work up to 16 pads at a time unless you go into keyboard mode (then its like 128) if im not mistaken.

anyway, on the mpc, you can have something in bank a mute something in bank b, c, or d, but on the maschine its limited to grop A muting things in group a, and things in group a could never mute anything in group b, but you can have more than 16 pads mute each other out if you connect a midi keyboard and go into keyboard mode. althoguh foge1 and i want them to have an option to work like banks on the mpc.
i want this because when i am making osmething int he mpc, i just chop it and lay it over however many pads (usually lay around 50 to 60 chops) and i set them all to mute group 1, then i play around live and find my melody by switching between banks and ****, but i cant jump around between banks on the maschine because ther banks (groups) are limited to 16 pads. this is the main reason i took my maschine back the day after i bought it actually. if it had this feature it would be dope imo.

sounds like it wouldn't be a tough request for them to fulfill... to allow banks to be manually set to either 16, 32, 64, etc... has anyone officially sent this in as a request?? seems like NI's programmers actually get stuff done over there...

Was interested in 2.0 as the drum synths sounded cool.

Was checking out the demos here and in reality they sound pretty lame to me.

So if you are not interested in buying the Studio as I am not because you aren't convinced that having two screens which are tiny in comparison to a cheap monitor then what exactly is the killer aspects of the new Maschine?

Multi core is impressive, but other than that and very persuasive marketing imagery it seems pretty hollow to me.

Roland put a big screen on the Fantom that looked impressive but ultimately it was just the Fantom all over again. I could see myself paying for v2.0 and feeling like my mark 1 was basically the same as before.

I don't think there is much here on a software level to get excited about. Not even sure as a komplete owner I am gonna upgrade straight away now I have heard the drum synth demos.

^ unlimited fx pluggins is a feature if im not mistaken... which IMO is huge, and multicore backs that up.

**** using only 4 vst effects or what ever the number is... if we're on a computer, lets work like we're on a computer.

thats what i was thinking too, people have been asking for years though, myself included.

it is really the only thing that is holding me back from getting one. maybe i should go check if they are still trying to request it and it would maybe get done faster?

****edit, i made a feature request thread on the ni forums for the group thing, if you guys really want this feature, please make an account over there and say you also want this feature. if we get enough people to say they want this, they might finally listen. thanks!

Seems like the combination of everything makes it 'killer' and not individual features. There's still a lot of people who prefer to focus on a small screen(s) when getting ideas together, and a growing number of people getting bored of staring at a computer monitor to make tunes. Having more buttons and a decent Jog that can edit and scrub also adds to the workflow.

I wouldn't personally dismiss the upgrade because of an included drum synth. The electronic stuff sounds pretty fat, but I'm not into the acoustically modelled 'real' drums at all. I'm sure they can work well for creating layers though. 8)

But why still no pad banks?
They tried to increase groups and such which seems to mean their perception was we wanted access to more sounds instead of understanding we wanted more associated sounds.

I just wish NI was giving more info on v2 software and how things play out on a regular Maschine.
I'm still thinking that it will be a $99 waste for the software because of how it looks on the old display and relates to the knobs.
Us owners of a normal Maschine will probably end up looking at the computer monitor more or just migrating to the Studio.

I suppose they've just got their own way of doing things. Working between Groups would be no different to me than working with Pad Banks. If anything, it would actually be more streamlined and powerful for the way I work.

Flux and Saint Joe seem to be saying that version 2.0 breathes new life into the old hardware, but you'd have to judge that for yourself.

I'm definitely going with the software upgrade for my mk1 controller that choke groups, manual slice. mixer page and side chaining it what I'm looking forward too. The drum synth covering electronic kits seems alright I listened to demos 3 and 4 for 909s and analog sounds. Being able to import midi files is finally a nice addition like hardware mpcs. I'm thinking of transferring some mpc 4k sequences and drum kits into maschine later. As far as the studio is looks nice with color screens and dedicated buttons but if I can continue to get along with mark 1 using shift button I might skip it. The pattern, sample and scene editing has to be the key points for me to switch.

whoa!!!! didn't see this til now....from N.I. page "A new feature in MASCHINE 2.0 is the ability to adjust start and end markers of a slice without affecting the markers of adjacent slices – a powerful addition with massive creative potential." The 2 biggest gripes I had about maschine will disappear with 2.0. This feature in a way will let me chop like I do in the mpc with non-destructive chopping...this and multicore=Im good. The added features are icing on the cake. Mk1 will be happy :-D
