MPC 1.5... but Native Instruments Has Weapons Of Mass Destru

If Akai replace the Ren with a MkII this early, then I will move to the Maschine Studio for sure.

Was the first thing that stood out to me on the Ren.

I finally decided that since they were saying 1.5 runs pretty good and the price I can get one for to give the Ren another try.
With all this talk about the screen and Maschine Studio in general we know Akai is probably working on a RenII which may or may not be in their best interest.

With their current pattern of early discontinuance of products would they create new controller and drop the old or continue to try and support both?
Seems like it would greatly deplete their resources to support 4 controllers if they made a dramatic hardware change.
Yet if they aren't going to make a dramatic hardware change they should stick with the current controllers and just turbo charge the software.

I guess I will get a least a year of support and usage out of the Ren before the real risk of Grande Holdings kicks in.

Remember... The Pete guy was in here asking if people wanted a bigger screen on a MKII, so they're obviously BEEN working on a Ren2 a long time ago. This probably made them change up a few things, it'll be out in a year or so though, I think by the time 2.0 drops we'll have a new ren to enjoy (or hate) and they'll try to bring it out on a fresh start.

2) Akai has 3 controllers : elements, studio and Ren, like NI has maschine mikro, maschine and maschine studio.

Anyways, even if they bring out a Ren mk2 in a year, it's gonna come with full colored pads and a bigger screen, more colored and eventually tactile. And they'll still support the old Ren. They cannot kill it. NI did not kill maschine mk1.
If you own maschine mk1 it's working with maschine 2.0 so....

Ebay retailers are dumping the Ren at even less than $799. There a whole list of them brand new with full warranty. Akai is it's purging inventory.

The next MPC branded product may be the MPC-iLock.

This is Akai and they dump products like dirty underware.

If a new Ren shows up it will kill the current for sure.

I thought that they never really got it to market, due to Apple's change from the 30pin connector they designed it with.

N.I has created a product with tiny screens in comparison to cheap 20 + inch monitors, a bunch of drum synths of unproven quality I listened to the demo and wasn't feeling that to any great degree, the sequencer will still be horrible in comparison to using a MPC, still no more than 16 pads per group, no drum layering.

What is the big deal here? I don't see any weapons of mass destruction, no real time time stretching, no audio tracks, nothing clever or innovative.

Is it really that exciting just cause it has a mixer now?

I actually think once the lighting rig and 3d graphics are turned off that theres not so much really to this.

I find the Push/ableton a much more attractive alternative as the implementation of their realtime timestretching is a standout feature. Thats something I would have been really impressed by if they had put that in the Maschine.

Great marketing campaign though.

I don't think he meant like that.
It's more like once the smoke cleared you can see things differently.

It's an upgrade to Maschine without a doubt but we got excited to quickly about the product.
It's nothing more than a required software update (adds lots of stuff they should have already given us) and a really flashy interface that all of a sudden made people feel the Ren was outdated.

The outdated look was the whole aspect of the Ren design and marketing ....... bringing the classic MP of the past to the computer.

Now all of a sudden some flashy lights and colored displays means they need to do a redesign.

I don't think people realise how close the Ren was to just having a 3K style numeric display for everything.

Dudes preferring to edit on 5" x 2" LCD as opposed having full screen editing on a 27" monitor reminds me of those 'I keeps-it-real' dudes. The same dudes that are now blown away by a colored LCD.

Granted....NI indicated multicore and side chaining in this new update which is something that MPC Ren/Studio users want in the MPC Software. But the remaining features such as a mixer, tighter plugin integration, more MIDI outs, data wheel, more dedicated buttons for modules, unlimited groups, software pad overview, etc are features already implemented in the MPC Ren.

I am more interested in the implementation of features that the Ren doesn't have that are in our feature suggestion threads:
1. Audio tracks
2. Step Edit
3. Realtime timestretch and pitch shifting
4. Sampling Insert FXs
5. Nondestructive chopping (JJ OS style)
6. MIDI patch script support
7. Editing per pad layer
8. Alternating looping
9. Sampler layer crossfade
10. Rewire/Rack Extensions

The only thing that matter is what's on the table table today. As of right now it's Dot Matrix vs. Laser be it software or hardware. Nonexistant wishlist features that may never come are completely irrelevant to the discussion.
