MPC 4000 Grid Edit?

Feature that the 4000 has that the 5000 doesn't have:
-It doesn't suck

I've got both sitting right beside me. Guess which one is currently on and being used to make beats with? The 4000. The 5000 isn't bad if you have never worked on a 4000....but after using it for several months, I still felt like it just couldn't compete with the 4000. The workflow and feature set of the 4000 can't be touched. If you don't believe me then get a 5000. You will actually probably enjoy using it because you haven't used a 4000 before, but the 4000 is everything the 5000 needs to be even with the updated technology it has. The 5000 was one update away from being a really good machine.

Whomever wrote that is an idiot. The 5k is a pile of unfinished sh!t no matter what you compare it to. Put it next to the 4000 and the list of shortcomings only becomes more obvious.

mpc4k cant load folders?

i must have a "special" version then as i load entire folders all the time..

and yes, you do have "q-link on pad" as far as i can remember..

make it seems as whoever wrote it is quite clueless about what he is talking about.. he might as well have compared cars and claimed one to be superior to the next because he forgot to start car

but then again it says nothing about OS versions.... i have never changed OS in mine, it has always remained the same, and it is not the "new" ones, so i doubt it would have any extra features compared to whatever he used..... and things like how to load a folder was one of the first thing i did when loading up samples after i first had gotten the 4k.. so i have no idea how such a thing could even be missed... the q-link to pad thing, was a bit more tricky as it was not as obvious as when on the 2kxl


but still, when doing these kind of comparisons, it would help to do some actual research before flapping around a bunch of false claims.


as for more 16 level features... again, afaik, you do have attack/decay and much much more, only, you have to make use of the mod matrix to set things up of what you want to change, so it is not a preset already available for you to choose like how tune or velocity is

Not in the slightest. The OS itself is sluggish, primitive, and riddled with bugs. I'd say it was perhaps the worse MPC ever.

Sounds like that review was more of a sales pitch for people to buy the MPC5000. What was the source?

Thats strange.Ive owned the 4k for a few years and the 2k s since the 90 s.Ive also owned 2 5k s and yes sitting next to the 4k its obvious the 4 is high quality in build and features/sound ect generally and also os/stability.BUT,the 5k kicks ass if you know how to make a beat/sequence and trick it out EASILY with the q links/fx editing,filters and all.Just saying that i love samplers and the 5k is tricked way out and the sequencer is really good feel out.Some have stability problems tho and the OS is a lil sluggish at times.I can make a ton of stuff in one session on this box.(5k)....But 4k stayed tho for good reason.edit-i defend the possitives of all hardware lol

Oh you can make music with the 5000 (I wrote an entire book how to do that), but it's so sluggish and half-assed that the creativity is killed stone dead (for me at least). If you are willing to deal with the issues, you can of course create some very decent stuff with it (just like you can with any sampler).

But that reviewer claiming that the 5000 is the 'best MPC ever' is laughable and is either someone trying to convince themselves that they made a great purchasing decision, someone trying to sell the 5000 itself, or someone selling 5000 tutorials or sounds.

Yeah,the 4k is the don for sure.The 5k is like dubstep compared to the 4k real jamiacan dub.....

It was probably Jah who wrote that little piece when he was banging on about the 5K being the best thing ever.

I don't know how many nested folders you can load into the 4K at once but it must be quite a few. I loaded 3 or 4 big folders up the other day from Ian Canefire's collection, and there was around 400 programs in total. It automatically renamed a few duplicate samples which is a nice feature.

The Program List screen is a major bonus when ploughing through that many programs.
