Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

peace everyone...

It seems my MPC 2000 thinks there's a floppy disc in the drive when there is isn't. Upon start up, the MPC runs thru the SCSI ids then the screen starts flashing "Insert 2000 Disk" (which usually comes up when you insert a non-2000 OS disk).

I've tried inserting multiple OS floppy discs but the screen reads the same. The OS is also on the zip that I start up with. This set up used to work, I've just been favoring my 1000 for the past year and haven't touched the 2000. I think the MPC 2000 won't see the OS on the zip if the MPC THINKS there's floppy disc in the drive... but I don't know for sure...

Thoughts?

sounds like your SCSI fuse is gone or your ZIP drive it is not working, could be one of those...
Also are you sure the floppies you are inserting on your floppy drive has the correct MPC2000 OS? if you are inserting anything else the MPC will continue asking for the OS

Replaced the floppy on my 2000 recently. Just got a cheap (Sony) one off ebay, £7 I think. Works fine now. Bit of a stress putting it back together... got a few screws left over!

And hello fellow MPC geeks!

if they are black.. they might be from the back of the unit to hold the case on..

if they are silver little ones they might be from the underside of the front panel... or maybe from holding the casing down in the front (you can see them when you get the front panel taken off)
