BPM DETECT?

Have real problems working out BPM with samples? So used to the 2000XL doing it for me. Anyone explain the basics?

I normally just load up the sample, hit the pad and use tap tempo to find it. Then adjust the project tempo as needed

Use patch phrase. It's easy and one of the most overlooked features on the Ren.

To prove your point I've never used the patch phrase feature since I've got my Ren.

Must spend some time with some drum breaks tomorrow and mess around with this feature to see what's up.

if you want the whole two bar sample on one pad. what about when youwant to change the way the sample is played? and patch phrasing never gives you the bpm. it just plays the sample back to what ever bpm the seq is set to. please educate me if im missing something.

My sentiments as well. I had been so used to the 2000xl being precise that patch phrasing I have found hit and miss and sounding glitchy at times. I typically sample two bars and it would be great to have a feature to just calculate as in other MPC's. This is where I felt like a noob to the machine when I got a REN as I thought " well where is the feature to tell the machine it's two bars and it tells me bpm?" ? Maybe I am missing something as well?

I used patch phrase yesterday. Woah!

Life changing feature.

patch phrases are very powerful. You can easily play back pp samples at different pitches (via 16 level for example), and you can even change their pitches in real time and create interesting variations of your loop. Furthermore you can convert all pp slices onto separate pads for more control (to only modify a certain slices in the phrase).....and I've improved them a little further for better break beat type stuff (I don't think it's in 1.5 yet)
