I'm sorry but the Numeric Keypad should have never been on the Ren...completely useless and other easy access buttons could have been utilized here...

But then it wouldn't be modeled after the iconic MPC 3000...

LOL, I'm sorry ya'll, in jest, only in jest... Heck I don't even own a Renaissance... But as the prices drop, I'm thinking about it...

But on my MPC 5000, I do actually use the keypad... not often, but I do

You're buggin! I use that shit all the time! The lack of this is something I hated about the 1000.

I think you use it out of habit and history having worked with several MPC's in your lifetime...I'm saying the whole numbers pad needs to be modernized...

That space could have been used for quick access buttons that would place you on settings on the main sequencing screen eliminating the need to curser over to where you need to be..

Example:

I hit the "VELOCITY" button it takes me there

I hit the "PROGRAM" Button it takes me there

I hit the "TYPE" Button it takes me there and from here I use the dial to change things

But instead there are numerals taking up this space..

For those who use the numerals these days on the Ren, when and what settings are you changing?

Don't get me wrong I fully understand the use of this with legacy MPC's but not with this controller that's connected to the computer...this reminds me how they took out the option to name things from the hardware...why try to spell things out from the hardware when you have a physical typing keyboard at your computer...so they understood that and I do believe they will understand my point on a future mpc design

i think they're useful.

I'm starting to think Akai should just give up.
It's supposed to be a MPC making use of the power of the computer yet there's constantly people asking to kill that aspect.

I think you use it out of habit and history having worked with several MPC's in your lifetime...I'm saying the whole numbers pad needs to be modernized...

That's exactly what they were trying to cover and the reason why it's there.

I use the keypad all the time. Much quicker/accurate for me to key in the numerical values than using scroll wheel.

One example - Changing tempo.

Yep me too!
All the time. As a science guy I am very fond to calculators. :smoker:
