Question Regarding Programs Mix & Track Mix

Do folks prefer drums program sequences all done in one track or individually?

I was hoping I would be able to export the program mix of a song individually but I found out that I cant .

I know the way around it for putting them into a DAW but im just curious if folks do use one shots of different tracks from the drum programs. Im not in front of my MPC but I would imagine it may put a bigger load on the software or could be hard to keep track of changes in the sequences.

I keep everything on separate tracks!

by default i tap out the whole drum beat.. So by default it's in one track.
I've been doing some creative routing with a daw so this doesn't really apply to me as a export mixdown stem function..

Software def needs export pads as stem function..

I record all my drums on a single track and use the Program Mixer.

I came from the days of the home studio being a 4 track cassette recorder so everything had to be done in minimal tracks, and even bounced down often to make room for vocals. (I thought the 8 track cassette recorder was a Godsend, lol) So today, with the large number of tracks available, I enjoy the luxary of using 4 or 8 tracks for separate beat components.

Reminds me when I got my first Alesis ADAT and it changed everything. Sad that I bought 2 of them back when they were almost 2 grand each, just so I could discover 'Cakewalk' for the PC a month later for a couple hundred bucks that gave me more power and flexibility. (I only have a few hours on those and hope they become worth money again one day, lol)

Exactly, that's the true meaning of exporting stems. This function in the Ren is a rip off. Sorry its just how I feel about it.

Separate tracks here too. Everything on its own track.

In addition to a global mixer, this is exactly why virtual outs are needed as well. At least 32. 48 would be optimal.

Same for now. My studio/ren workflow differ from the legacy flow. The only thing I don't like about the program mixer is that you cant use the pads to select the sound you want to adjust.

If I wasn't forced to the submixer when adding plugins to pads and could export pads as stems, I would also go this route! I like seeing all of my drums on the same piano roll, but the limitations of the mixer keeps me from using this how I would like to.

You don't really need to though, since each pad is automatically assigned to a q link for adjustment. Unless I'm missing what you're talking about!

Going old skool....

1. Set the Output of ALL Pads to 1/2 (as opposed to Track or Submix)
2. Then I mix like I was using a hardware MPC and ignore the Track Mixer

Note - Before some of the usual suspects chime in...we are fully aware what the mixers can or can't do......

True. I missed that one. With the studio it's a task but I guess I'll have to deal with it.

Seperate tracks for me....I find it easier to make changes or adjust things this way.

single track for me to get it down fast and I like playing it together and then I break them out separately later...
