MPC 4000 v MPC 1000 (JJOS) v Maschine v Roland MV8000

Hey everyone, so I've currently got an ASR 10. I'm looking to add to this with one of the above units. Which one do you guys think has the best sound (warm, boom bap)? And which one do you guys think has the most functionality (most vintage unit, not in age but timeless in features)?

I'd avoid to spill more words on it, should you ever need to really make up your mind about the drum-machines you mentioned I'm sure you'll be more than welcomed by your friend GOOGLE and its close cousin the mere SEARCH BOX of this frigging board.

LOL calm down old man. I should've mentioned that I am new to producing, coming from a djing background. So maybe go easy, if thats not too hard for a seasoned individual such as yourself.

I've read a heap of articles regarding these machines using GOOGLE and the SEARCH BOX of this forum. However I would like some updated info comparing the mentioned machines in relation to my ASR 10.

Opinions change over time (as I'm sure you would know ), such as those regarding the MPC 4000. Initially it seemed there were a lot of mixed opinions, now it seems to be one of the best ever made according to user opinions. Thats why I'm asking for a couple updated opinions.

Considering you seem pretty outdated yourself though you need not to reply. But thanks for the attempt.

It still puzzles me. There's plenty of comparison topics on the above mentioned machines. Several topics dedicated to your supposed one, its integration with the AKAI MPCs, its use alone (it IS possible as far as I know) as a self-contained production tool and together with a DAW. What more can you obtain from such a thread? Sure you can fuel a nice flame war asking for vintage warmness of not-vintage equipment (throwing NI MASCHINE into it, that's going for the lulz) and pulling the 'boom-bap' card CUM MENTULA.

I don't understand how it still puzzles you. As I said in my previous post:

Thats all I'm asking for, some opinions on the aforementioned equipment. If thats too hard you can just skip this thread...

My reason for adding non vintage equipment to the comparison is due to the supposed ability of these products to emulate the 'warmth' I'm looking for.

But whatever, you can keep being bitter for no apparent reason if you like. I joined this forum because I've read some pretty good replies to other topics on here, and I still hope to get some under this topic.

A straight mofo telling you LOUD to stop all this mental jerking and start making music on equipment the 95% of the people here just dream about (again, the infamous ASR... wait for it... 10).

And I'm all but bitter, just real. Because you know, you remind me of my younger sister. When she was in her young 20s she was very active in alt.binaries.starwars and her most funky performances included opening topics like "Why I don't believe Luke and Leia are REALLY brothers" or "Why it is not sure DARTH VADER is Luke's father", you see the point. BTW, my sister is now a beautiful M.D. and she's still THAT funky, what about you?

Thank you for actually giving me a relevant opinion this time, which was to just stick with the ASR 10. I don't think I needed the part about your sister and star wars though, but thanks.

Whether you believe that I have an ASR 10 or not is up to you. I don't really care. I'm not going to bother proving something to some weird stranger online. The fact of it is, I am new, I'm still learning this unit. But I also want to know what else is out there that may work well alongside the ASR 10, an updated opinion.

But whatever. It's just funny how you call me the troll, when you're the one who has been trolling me since my first post. Although I admit I may have been a little harsh with my second post (If I was actually trolling I would have continued).

I probably didn't take enough time thinking through my initial post. But anyway I'm happy to hear some more opinions, this banter is just a waste of time though.

What do you need? Another sequencer? Another sampler? Pads? A DAW? Do you have a mixer? How do you intend to track-out? What kind of sound you're after? Do you play keys? Drums?

I do often speak metaphorically, but believe me I stick to the topic.

The Ensoniq keyboard is very sought after and it's actually used (alone or in conjunction with the MPC2000XL) by platinum producers that I won't mention here for lack of swaggotry, to fully craft their masterpieces. You need nothing to little more to add, in order to have EVERYTHING you need.

Each of these machines has there own weaknesses and strengths, depending on what you are looking for. Like Funkydrops said, you already have a versatile sampler which has the warmest sounds out of all the units you mentioned. Because most of the people hate the ASR's sequencer it's best to pick a machine for it's sequence capabilities.

If you could be more specific about the features you are looking for we can also give you more specific answers. Otherwise it really sounds like a random comparison.

I have an MV8000 and I love it. I also have an ASR-10 and its got a sound to it thats awesome.

I look at it this way. Since you are new to producing, you wont know what your missing as far as sequencers go. with that said, an MV can be had for 300-400 from guitar center used gear section on their website.

Finally, if you do decide to get an MV, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ELSE for a while. The tendency when you are first starting out is to buy a bunch of stuff. You arent just learning the gear, your learning your craft. Mastering your craft is the most important thing you can do. If you have too much stuff, it will overwhelm you.
