Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

After a couple of months, I set the MPC back up to work on a new project and noticed an issue with the data wheel.

It seems that whatever parameter I am changing will vary its amount randomly as I turn the wheel.

For instance, if I want to scroll through a long file list, and I turn it right to go down, as I am turning it, the cursor will start going the opposite direction, then stop and go down again, stop and go back up. It's like it has a mind of its own.

I'm thinking that the wheel may be out of alignment with the board or something, or maybe there are contacts inside of it that aren't catching properly.

I tried the pad test screen, and it happens there as well. It happens in any parameter.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

yea sounds like the encoder itself. i'm sure you can get a replacement.
but first step might be to just take the wheel off, maybe the casing too, and give it a good blast of air.

I'll give that a try next chance I get.

I think the note variation slider needs to be replaced also, it's fully non-operational.
