Some reasons to hope (sorry for the piggy copy/paste):

@ghostediting We do, though, listen to the forums. And many other places, too.

@petegoodliffe Hi Pete, on MPC Fo are suggestions from an unanimously praised post from DSTR/deStar ! But you certainly already got it. ;)

@ghostediting Believe me, I don't think anyone can beat our already *enormous* list of potential features! We have lots planned...

;) In their enormous list, if they could settle the basic stuff first, it would be great.

Also, if I'm not mistaking, we STILL can't reorder Tracks like on the MPC 1000.

True :( I don't know if anyone has a path for doing that, but not me.

But man, u cant make a beat with the ren??

:Sigh:

Just so frustrating. EVERY TIME I get down to it, I hit walls, and I have to think of workarounds for EVERYTHING. At the end of a few minutes/hours, my creativity is long gone.

It all adds up, man.

I know what you're talking about although I don't own a Ren. But if this piece kill your workflow/creativity then you should put it in the closet for a year (no joke, if your eyes doesn't see it everyday you start to feel better), pray that "they" will do a good job and work with the 1000 again.

peace

I Feel You DSTR / deStar!!!!

If they would have kept with the classic MPC workflow/enviroment just transfered over to software upon initial release of the product, I would be very happy!

The extra bells and whistles (like expansions packs) could have been added in due time after the fact, once that classic mpc flow was added in the box(computer) and stable.

The transition from the classic/hardware mpc line to the software based line has been kind of clunky with alot of work arounds just to do basic/classic mpc functions. Some functions that have been a staple since the birth of the MPC line (example: step edit, classic midi setup for sync/hardware/etc...) arent there, or are half way there.

But im deal with it upon each update..

To the guys hitting those walls I somewhat understand. Although I come from a hardware sampling background (Akai 1000/3000/6000) I moved into the DAW world a couple years back with Cubase and software samplers too and really got into the flow of what that 'in the box' approach could offer.

Then I decided I missed the hardware immediacy and wanted a break from the monitor glare, even a reduction in time staring at a screen and having to use the mouse would be a bonus and that is a large part of the reason I purchased the Ren in August this year.

I had never used an MPC before and when that Ren landed and I loaded it up and installed it I felt like a complete newbie again. Nothing completely made sense, small portions here and there had a certain familiarity but sequencing, song mode, using pads and events, pad copy, etc etc was completely new and I found myself hitting that same wall for a couple of days when instroduced to that initial learning curve.

I never lost hope though, I knew what I wanted the thing to do and I knew if I couldn't write music with something this advanced then I had no business whatsoever in the music business. After all, guys have written and produced no.1 albums on no more than a laptop, some software and a usb keyboard!!!

So I hit Youtube, bought a manual/tutorial (thanks MPC-Tutor) asked questions on here and kept pushing that wall back further and further. Now, there is no wall. I have found out the way the MPC Ren works, what it does, what it doesn't do and what I hope it might do in the future and I am putting the thing to work non stop.

What was always in the back of my mind during that early period was that it wasn't the technology that wrote my back catalogue these past 17 years and it's not the technology that will write my future 'back' catalogue, it's me and I'm more than able to write songs on something as capable as this so there's no excuses whatsoever!!!!

So, in my own little way, I'm trying to show you there's workarounds for a lot of your issues and 1.5 has progressed the product further once again rendering some previous workarounds moot points. I'm delighted that Akai will continue developing the MPC Ren and it's siblings/software however, I'm not waiting for those updates before I put this damn thing to work.

Make your grievances known to Akai for sure but don't think this thing isn't a capable beast of a machine right now because I can tell you in the right hands it most definitely is.

RS, AKAI just get in contact with JJ offer him the code and allow him to flip it, and watch the ren destroy every other sequencing product on the planet. You saw what he did to your code before, he blessed you!

No knock against you guys personally, but your development time here is slow, you have a product with the AKAI MPC name on it, but there's alot of us who have been around this block a time or two,and know how good MPC's are supposed to work.

The basic features should have been implemented from the jump. I'm suprised all those legendary producers and beta testers, never mentioned these features to you guys! Maybe they did, or maybe they knew their older Mpcs would still retain most of their workflow.

Either way, I'm in support of getting the basic features in the REN! JJ wouldn't be a bad guy to call though, as he has the know how to take a plain old OS and make it beautiful.. Of course the plain old OS had alot of good stuff that the REN doesn't have and thats pretty **** sad!

Great post. I held off buying the Ren for at least a year (did you hear that AKAI?) and finally ordered one this week.

I look forward to compare progress with this thread.

I totally get it. Flow is a right brain thing and workarounds are on the left.

Funny... I just got notified a reply was made on this thread.

I almost forgot I was a member...

Totally stopped making beats because of the Renaissance. It's all over for me! Made two albums, two EPs, one 12", and one 7" with my MPC 1000. Then it broke. Replaced it with the Ren.

Almost two years of nightmares later, I couldn't handle it anymore.

I do calligraphy now to satisfy my creativity.

Peace.

glad he moved on. beat making was not his forte. If you can make beats you can do it on anything.

ANYTHING.

expressing frustration for lack of uses an intended item had toward ones expectations is understandable.

throwing your hands in air and running off crying that "I just can't do it!" is some baby shit.

calligraphy sounds about right. until his pen tip breaks. then ohh god the calligraphy forums will hear all about it.

thanks for bring this crap thread back.
