Can someone explain to me what exactly zone edit ( under trim menu f5) is and how to use it? I have a mpc 2000 (non xl) and I am having trouble to get it to do anything. Also if anyone has a link to the instruction manual for the mpc 2000. I checked the http://www.akaipro.com website but did not see the manual for the non xl version. thanks in advance.

Zone Edit is used to chop or trim a sample so it plays how you want it to.

its sort of like using cool edit where your looking at the actual wave form. When you go into TRIM select which sound you want by scrolling thru the list up top. Now the F buttons all take you to a different page. The ZnEdit button (F5 i think?) takes you to that page. All you basically do is select your Start Point (where you want to start playing at) and the end point (where you want the selection to end). You basically want to highlight what you want to chop/trim/hear. get it so far?

so say a sample is too long and you want it to loop perfectly. Pick your start point (usually will be at the very beginning unless you want to start elsewhere...) and cursor over to where you choose your end point. You can either use your jogwheel to choose your end point or type it in. When your selecting your points, if you look at your jog wheel theres an outer wheel over the middle wheel. Turn that to the left and the cursor will shift to the left allowing you to select a bigger section. basically lets you choose your points faster. try it and you'll understand what I mean...

After you decide your start and end points you pretty much done! thats all its about. selecting what part of the sample you want to save. In the upper right corner of the ZnEdit page theres an option of what to play. You can either play "ALL" (or the whole sample), "Zone" (what you selected), "BeforeZn" (play everything before what you selected), "AfterZn" (play everything after what you selected). I usually switch to Play Zone so I can hear what I selected. Play what you got and make sure everything is how you want it.

Not sure which F button is above EDIT but you want to press that button. It'll take you to a page where you can name what you just Zoned. Type what name you want for it, and do it. that will save what you just zoned.

Hope this made sense. I know its a lot, and i might have been a little off on some things but this should help. im not in front of my mpc so srry if im off a bit.

peace, good luck

Thanks I'll try it again. What about under znedit. When I highlight start point it gives me a option to select a number (1-?) at the same time the end number goes up at the same time. What exactly is that doing? Let me know if this doesn't make any sense.

ok so it sounds like your using the jogwheel to select your start point?

when you move your start point without selecting an end point yet, the line (you see it?) moves farther down the waveform. so all its doing is moving the End point down. so if you were to move the start point up to a certain point, then if you were to move the start point BACK you'll see that it highlighted the area you moved over!

nothings happening when your doing that. the end point value moves too because if you dont have anything selected then all you see is a line, right? since its only a line and your moving it up, your end point will move also. now if you moved your start point back so it highlighted, your end point wont move anymore. only when your going up.

did i make any sense? if not, do it on your mpc and you'll see what i mean

Ok I got what your saying now. Thanks. Is there any way of getting the sample chopped in to 16 pieces (like the 2000xl does with there "zone")?Or do I have to chop the sample into 16 pieces manually? thanks for your help.

You have to do it yourself.

Really? damn that sucks. Is that what everyone with the non xl does?

I have the XL but I'm pretty sure that's what everyone with the "non-XL" does.

YEAHH YOU GOTTA CHOP THE SAMPLES YOURSELF, BUT WITH ENOUGH PRACTICE & WITH TIME YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE YOUR OWN STYLE OF CHOPPING & TRIMMING
