Very close to buying an mpc renaissance

Hello!

I had a terrible accident with my 2500 last week which wrote it off fortunately it was insured, unfortunately 2500's are out of production now so I've been told they will most likely offer me a renaissance in place of the 2500. At first I thought this was a bad thing because I loved my mpc and I loved jjos2xl but the more I researched the renaissance the more I started to warm to the idea. I've read the manual and watched a load of videos but what I can't figure out is how much does the computer really come in to play? Is it possible to work without touching the computer? How much can be done using the hardware for a very simple workflow such as sample, chop, program layer?

I'd estimated about 95% of stuff can be done from the hardware. Thing is, most of the things that have to be done on the computer are done faster than they could be done on the MPC.

Ok thanks for the input, that's good to know! I only really ask because I've run out of space so my MacBook has to be elevated on a stand when sitting at the mpc desk meaning it'll be a slight hassle to use. Still doable though.

I have a space issue too and the main annoyance just comes to changing the "edit zones" parameter in program edit. Like if you're editting a filter or the attack envelope and you want it to effect all your chops you have to use the mouse, etc

Like hellfire said though 95% of what I need to do I can do from the hardware.. And things like naming files or nudging notes can be faster with a mouse and keyboard anyways..

I used the 1k and JJOS and at this point I do prefer the ren .. Especially as it's become more stable.

Thanks es-k, good advice. I think I'll give it a pop if the insurance company offer me one. I certainly do like how easy it will be to export files.

How have you found the chop on the ren as someone coming from jjos? I'm totally hooked on ndc in jjos2xl!!

In case your still looking for a BRAND NEW MPC2500,

Armens Music in New York is the only dealer left with a TON of brand new ones.

i was jus up there saturday and apparently he bought the last batch from Akai a few years ago

He also is the only dealer who has the last batch of the 04' circa minimoog voyagers brand new

There Moog webite even says to go to him with a link since that model is out of production..

yo! Thanks supreme but I'm in the U.K. This is a hard decision, every review seems to contradict the other....I suppose I could always sell it if I end up with one and grab at 2500 on ebay.

My bad! Thought u were in the states. Well he does list them on his eBay store page I think as welll..

It's always intresting talking to him when I go up there. He said when producer alchemist.WWent back to LA, he jus gave Armen his Asr10 like here take it!! Cus he loves the mpc2500 now

Yeah, just called and they're the black ones and 5 left. Maybe I'll bite, but if he had them for at least $800, then I would be a 2500 owner right now. Still too pricey though.

As suspected the insurance company have shipped a renaissance! I think I'll give it a go and see if I can get on with it. Thanks again for the advice and if any of you want to buy some red fat pads from my old 2500 just let me know.

Interesting that the insurance company didn't just pay your claim?
Normally replacement cost means they pay you the amount needed to replace the item not source the item for you.

Probably their way of cutting down or people trying to scam for straight cash.

yeah I thought so myself, I even argued that it wasn't a like for like swap because the renaissance requires a computer where as the 2500 doesn't but they didn't seem to be having any of it. I'm not 2 bothered though, I just appreciate the fact that the insurance ''paid out'' without any hassle.

Plus I've been watching that mpc university with young guru and as per usual I've been sucked right into the whole idea.
