Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi all new to the group and the mpc2000xl. im having a small prob with my new 2000xl is there away to simultaneously trigger an external synth or module with my keyboard on its appropriate channel and sample it at the same time? whenever i press shift sample it cuts the midi to the rack synth. is there anyway of getting the midi to still trigger the module through the mpc while its sampling? dont really want to start unplugging midi cables every time i want to sample

no.
when yer sampling that is all you are doing. you have to trigger the synth elsewhere.

its not really that bad - it is just not what the machine is intended for. the xl is an incredible machine.

i would ask yourself why you want to sample the synth, if you can trigger it in realtime via midi anyway? yes, it is indeed different, but it gives you more options in some respects, even if it takes away some in others.
alternatively, the best thing to do would be to sample one note of the synth and recreate what you want in the xl.

basically, if you can use the sequencer (the best part) in the xl as much as you can, you are really sitting on a lot of beautiful options. if yer just triggering a phrase sample once every bar, you are missing out on a lot, and the machine isn't really geared for that anyway.

yer i see all it was for was making more than one sound of an old analog mono synth. plus i prefer working with sampled sounds to live synth ones in some cases. ive found a solution on my s2000 rack sampler, sample into that then re sample into mpc using the play button. this will be a rare issue to be honest and your right it is a fantstic machine. Thats why im typing this on my laptop in my room which is about 30 feet from my studio ha ha. many thanks for the reply so quick. im making house by the way hence the need for multiple synth action. cheers mate

glad you found a workaround
i think sampling directly into the mpc would be the best - maybe get another controller keyboard / pad thing just for triggering the synth.

sounds like you will be fine - props
