Have not tried it, but it should work.
I would trust a Jaz disk only a little more than a Zip disk.

every time i try to format i get a error code ff51:303/31/8cj

I don't have a ton of Jazz drive experience - but here is some very very generic advice based on my ZIP usage.
- try another disk
- try another cable
- make sure termination is set to ON on back of drive.
- drive turned on before the MPC
- go to the 'make scsi hard drive active' option and make sure to select that SCSI ID
I had some real ball ache with a ZIP drive the other day, swapped the ZIP's SCSI cable and like magic everything worked better.

I used to use ZIP drives a lot in my day job (design industry) back at the beginning of time, I seem to remember that Jazz drives were even more unreliable than ZIP drives. jazz disks are harder to get hold of too. maybe that means you are better of with ZIPs, who knows.
