More inputs for Protools

Am using a 002 rack but I was just lookin for an way to get more inputs. Can you use digital mixers ? Or does it have to be strickly one of these digi interfaces ?

You can use the adat in to give you another 8 ins. You can connect an 8 input AD converter to the adat for analog. the 96i must be used with the Protools tdm cards.

ADAT is a digital connection standard. Simply put, you can get a rack unit of AD converters that connects via an ADAT cable to your digi002, like this one: http://www.alesis.com/products/ai3/ and presto, 8 more inputs.

dumb question, but i've been thinking about getting the digi002 and was apprehensive about it because of the input thing.......where exactly on the back of the 002 would I put the ADAT to get 8 more outs???

would i use the alt src input, spdif, or optical in or something like that? and up to how many more inputs coudl i potentially add? thanks

Th 002 has and cannot have anymore than 18 inputs. 8 1/4 inch analog inputs, 8 via ADAT lightpipe(the lil sqare thing in back that looks like a phone plug) and stero spdif(looks like a rca plug).

Yes. You can record 8 analog, 8 adat optical and 2 spdif all at once.

Probly know this, but you would have you have to have a mixing board with adat i/o to use the lightpipe i/o, with any system. It's only called ADAT cus alesis invented it, but most digital mixers now have an adat i/o, or an option card for it.

You don't need a mixing board, just a 8 channel interface with a adat output. Behringer makes a cheap one, Alesis has one for about 3 or 4 bills

Word, word...I sit corrected. The standalone joints look nice, but my homie told me that although the Behrenger is cheaper, you should get the Alesis. He said the audio converters on the Alesis are of a similar caliber to the OO2, whereas the Behrenger is lower quality conversion, and have been known to lose a channel or two in less than a year. And that ain't no savings at all.
