Do I need a mixer with my turntable??

Hey all,
I have an MPC 1000 and am buying a turntable. Do I need a mixer between my turntable and my MPC or can I record straight from the turntable to MPC?

If the turntable has phono level output, like most turntables, then you need something with a phono preamp in it, like a DJ mixer, but could be a hifi amplifier with a phono input as another example.

That is needed to turn the phono level output of the turntable into a line level signal, applying the required RIAA de-emphasis EQ curve to the signal in the process, to send into the MPC.

Some turntables have a line level output built in, they would not need a DJ mixer, or other device with a phono input, between the turntable and the MPC.

Depending on the turntable, modern ones usually have a built-in preamp, check for specs, should have a switch that turns a signal into Phono or Line.

But I would recommend a mixer or a pre-amplifier in the long run though. You can benefit greatly from the eq and pan and level pots.
