Storage medium poll

What's everyone using with their MPC2000 and 2000XL?

I'm sure someone started the same poll already. But probably not recently... so anyway, what are you using and why?

Floppy here. I got 30 of them and I don't wanna spend any money on other storage options when the MPC2000 doesn't have folders either. So I'm happy with what I have... it works.

floppy disks on the 2000 classic. I am going to have to track down another case of boxes soon because im running out haha...

95% of my tracks on the 2000 take only a single floppy... so it works out real well when you have piles of brand new ones. As long as you eject the disk after you are done loading or saving.. never leave it in the drive idling while working on the beat... you should not have any issue with errors.

Yeah I noticed the drive keeps spinning. So I'm assuming that's normal?

yeah it seems so... but after 10-20 minutes you will hear the swooshing sound from the floppy in the drive... a few times that sound reminded me I forgot to eject it... you might as well toss that disk and put in a new one to re-save. The swooshing = disk is ****.

Thanks for the warning. I definitely have to get used to removing the floppy. After all those years with the 1000, I never had to worry about that. But I don't mind getting used to working a different way and preserving the life of my disks.

Good to see I can order floppy discs on Amazon.

2000XL already has an internal SCSI port, doesn't need any mod for internal SCSI like the 2000 Classic.

Am using an IDE/ATAPI CompuApps ATAPI741 multi-slot card reader, works with OS1.14 and 1.20...

Not sure, have only used CF.

I've read in the past that some had problems. But I wasn't sure if it had to do with the model of the multi card reader or not.
I'm running a 2011 Mac Mini with a built in SD card reader. So I'm thinking what I can do without buying more peripherals if I decide to sell the 2k and some spare parts to buy a 2kxl.
As of now, the PC is only being used for storage/backup for the 2k and for all my audio files that I don't want to bog down the Mac HD with. So the temptation of buying a 2kxl is still there, considering I won't have to invest anything at all beyond the sale of the 2k and the spare parts from the other unit.

How much is that CF reader? I got a malware warning when I clicked on that link.

Yeah, I am getting the malware message as well, but it has worked previously without getting it.

They are something like $45 each.

Thanks Simon. I couldn't remember if those multi-card readers were hard to find and went up in price since the last time I read up about it a few years ago.
