Mpk49 and Ren workflow

I have owned an mpc renaissance for quite some time now. I have very good workflow on the mpc, but I recently purchased and mpk49 to add some help with my workflow.
My main question is, how can I sync the two controllers on the same beat.
For example, if I want to create the melody and bassline then add he drums and mix/master on the mpc what is the best way to do so? Can I use the mpk49 through the mpc software or do I need to create the melody, etc. on the mpk49's software, then open it in the mpc software after that?
My apologies if the question is confusing, I'm having a hard time explaining my problem.

Could you please be a tad bit more specific? If I connect it with USB is it better to use it with mpc or mpk software? And if I use the mpk software to start, how do I transfer it to the mpc software?

Everything has to be done in the mpc's software. The mpk does no have a sequencer. The software that comes with the mpk is only for editing the mpk's parameters to your liking.

When using an MPK with MPC Software, the MPK is used as a MIDI controller keyboard for the MPC, you use it as an alternative to playing the MPC pads.

The MPK is connected to the computer via USB, and then shows up as a MIDI controller for any MIDI software on the computer, including MPC Software.

I have no usb connection of my mpk49 to the computer, just a Midi cable to the Ren
and it works fine.!

Yes, should have mentioned that.

There is also some deal with the USB cable and the MPKs, something like with the USB cable connected, it doesn't send MIDI directly out the MIDI ports, only through the USB cable into the computer, so your method requires an external power supply and no USB connected (I think).

And there is no need to usb it to the computer if your not using it for other software.

Pretty simple....

I would connect MPK49 (or any USB controller) directly to the MPC Ren via USB. Then open the MPC Software MIDI preferences and enable the MIDI controller in the I/O options.
