Source of Confusion...MPC/DPS16/PC

Aaight... this is something that has been bothering me for a long time now... my question is, for other than on-location recording, what would be the purpose of multitracking on your DPS, if you're just going to load the separate tracks into your PC's multitracking program (such as Vegas)? Why not just record into VEGAS in the first place and bypass the DPS all together?

I only bought my DPS because of stability. My computer is old and I have had many problems with it, so I decided to get the DPS until I built myself a new power computer. But I'm wondering, what am I going to need the DPS for if I can just record into VEGAS?

I dont. I prepare everything on the MPC using a tascam 4 track mixer. Once I'm done programing I track into Cubase VST/32.

Why don't you mix your beat in Cubase?

Yeah, I track into cubase (sound/sample) and do my final mix there too. Track means record into.

I use the DPS16 to record the tracks, then export the WAV files over to my PC for further editing in Soundforge or T-Racks. Then they go back into the DPS16 for final mixdown, then maybe bak to the PC for mastering. I prefer mixing with all the knobs and sliders - but I also like the mountains of effects in my PC. Best of both worlds. I never really got into mixing stuff down in my computer, seems too 'detatched'

There's a forum @ Dpsworld.com dedicated to the dps 24/16/12. It's not as live as this one but there's some good stuff on there.

On one of the posts some cat breaks down how he uses the dps16 and cubase with vst plug ins all in one. Sh*t's extensive and kinda ill. As for me, I've got alot of homework to do with my dps16 cuz I'm always glued to the mp like a fiend .

Tutor - how do you xfer your wav's from Dps to PC - Cd burner or is there a faster way?

I use a SCSI zip on the DPS and a USB zip on my PC. I would have gone for the CDRW, but in UK, the DPS16 did not come with the CDR as standard and at he time, the cheapest compatible drive was around £250 - I already had the zip drives. But it does take ages to transfer

Does anyone have an opinion on the Akai DPS12? They're going for $250 average on eBay. I was considering getting one.
