+1. Ill-green,

so true. Everyone opposed to this idea says its old school. But its not. And It should be fairly easy to make as well. If the Ren is so advanced in technololgy. This should be cheaper to make.

I really think akai needs to stop following trends in the drum machine market and just be akai, be an mpc. People will and always have respected the brand. This new flagship is def possible. I didnt buy the ren for a reason.

It would not be cheaper to make hardware.

Akai was a company long before the MPC, what killed them was they put their focus on the MPC only and it killed the other aspects of the company.
When technology began to change what people were looking for in electronics Akai Japan was so dependent on one product aspect it couldn't stay afloat.

What Akai really needs is to pull off more deals like the Ableton PUSH to strengthen their market share and expand the company so they will once again have the resources to develop useable product lines.

Until then all this nonsense is just that.
If Akai made a hardware MPC the chances of them achieving any type of ROA is pretty slim.

Korg and Roland survive by constantly finding ways to build smaller; cheaper products with their existing technology.
Keyword here being cheaper.

Another way for AKAI to be loved much more: Run a **** stable OS on the MPC6000 and If you decide not to support it after a few years make it open source. Alternative: Make it open source from day one, watch your forum and search the people creating the best tools. Make a competition out of it and talk with the winner(s) on how to build an even better hardware design. Think about a MPC6000m where m stands for modulized edition. (isn't it nice to let the user decide to put the display, pads or whatever left, ight, front, back or more outs or usb and/or firewire, SCSI, pads with or without lights)

So you guys are saying they couldnt make an mpc for $2,500 ?

YES it would be cheaper to make a hardware unit then it was in 1987 or so...
Understanding that the ren WAS a midi controller, which I stated in my first post and through out this thread.

One's argument was my idea was old school, not as advanced as the ren. My defense to that was the ren is ONLY a midi controller, you all paid $1,300 for it.. WHICH WAS NOT WORTH that price. And now your saying an actual HARDWARE unit that functions like a hardware unit BUT also works in computer world couldnt be made, not enough demand, is old school and so on and so on wouldnt work, and would be $4000 ???? WRONG.

I guess thats why you can get the motif sounds on a computer, or in the mx series for a fraction of the cost of a full motif xf with weighted keys?

Im standing by what I said.... Custom built, special order only. $2000. this unit could be made and would work and would profit akai. I guess the reason the price is dropping on the ren and why so many retailers wont even carry them anymore is SURE sign as why the ren was such an incredible idea and keeping akai afloat in this competitive market ??? hahaha NOT !!!

Keep your ren and its lifeless shell and cold sound. no thanks ! The ren couldnt of been THAT great of an idea.. The sales should tell you that. I know people who work at sweetwater.com and guitar center. Managers at that.. the thing was a piece of crap..sorry. But so many people will eat what there fed instead of requesting what they like to eat. Thats why we have the ren and not a hardware unit.

The more people that keep there money in there pocket, and wait to be served what they want. The more akai and ANY company would be willing to entertain something such as this. But to call it nonsense? no.. nonsense was the ren !

whether they build another unit or not.. I'll live ! But will I shell out any of my cash for a midi controller. NOPE and I know 100's of other producers who wont either. So we'll see how long akai stay's afloat with that method.

i appreciate your ideas but this reasoning is 100% completely off.
the reason they can sell things for 'reasonable' prices is because of mass manufacturing. a component is way cheaper when you buy in bulk than when you buy in single. it makes no business sense for akai to stockpile components waiting for someone to order one...custom made that might not even use the stock they have supplied properly, for such a low price (yes $2000 for a custom made electronic device is cheap).

not to mention you've got the idiot factor - you'd have tons of kids ordering shit they didn't know what it was capable of or could do and then complaining when it doesn't have the 'make beat' button. now you've got returns on custom products that cant, without further cost, be repurposed into something else.

a huge company cant do made-to-order unless the demand is also huge...and the reality is ni caught the new market a while ago, while jj is keeping the used market and legacy alive.

if you want to see a company doing modern hardware units intelligently, look at elektron.

I think chasing the VST thing is the wrong way to go. It'll make the MPC dependent on a PC OS, and we all know going to be some degraded version of some Microsoft shite :WTF: . I really like the DSP, RISC stuff, it works much better, no latency.

So make an MPC that integrates closely with DAWs if you want the VSTs. But make the MPC 6000 stand alone, with decent FX that can be accessed through the DAW too through USB. Can be used as an audio interface, can be edited through a computer, tablet or from within the DAW.

But if the chassis had easily user replaceable cards, then the MPC could be updated indefinitely. I mean, the pads, the screen, the faders, the buttons, the box, don't really need changing at all (except when Akai use low quality ones in the first place). This would be a constant earner for Akai, ppl would be more likely to upgrade.

And have an external FX send & returns. :-D I wish JJ could do that for the 2500.

If you think everything is going software, then why are there still lots of new hardware synths like Novation Bass Station II, Moog Slim Phatty & Taurus. Minibrute Etc, Etc, Etc.

Did anyone say that?

Now you are jumping from $2500 to $4000 to support your argument?

It could be made, but to have the same processing power as a modern computer, to run the same sort of virtual instruments and effects as MPC Software, is going to cost a lot, and is going to end up obsolete in terms of processing power, compared to advancing computer technology, very quickly.

mpc60III wrote:I guess thats why you can get the motif sounds on a computer, or in the mx series for a fraction of the cost of a full motif xf with weighted keys?

And why is that different to a MPC controller vs hardware MPC argument?

You can get the MPC functionality on a computer for a fraction of the cost of a full hardware MPC.

mpc60III wrote:Im standing by what I said.... Custom built, special order only. $2000. this unit could be made and would work and would profit akai.

Now you are back down to $2000?

No idea if it would profit Akai or not, but I doubt it, not going to get much return on a custom built/special order hardware MPC, with the development costs that would be involved.

The comparisons to mobile phone tech/prices is way off. You are not going to get much out of a mobile phone CPU, and the economies of scale involved in mobile phone development and production vs custom hardware MPC development and production is at a completely different level.

mpc60III wrote:Keep your ren and its lifeless shell and cold sound. no thanks !

You keep going on about this cold sound.

Why is a new hardware MPC going to sound any different?

It is a digital sampler and VST host, a hardware version is going to sound exactly the same, using the same sort of modern AD/DA convertors and circuitry.

I here you guys. And Im with you on alot of your points ! seriously I am.

In response to the other post though..

Its the name" akai" that made everyone Jump all over a half finished product that included a pretty midi controller with fisher price light up buttons. The average consumer doesnt know this..but the average manufacture does. "names and likeness" something we learn in school. Thats why everyone was initially all over the akai's ren.

If lets say... M audio or some other company came out with a cheap midi controller.. and "software"... FIRST OF ALL ! you all would have NOT paid $1,300 for it. thats a guarantee. lets be real here

Nobody likes to admit they got dooped after they've spent there money. But lets face it. Akai's name sold you all a dream. Your learning to like your product which is cool. And your praying for updates and continued development. rightfully so. But dont try to make it seem like the idea was einstien material

But just because some of us want a QUALITY unit that is not a midi controller dressed up like an mpc as if its halloween. Doesn't mean a hardware unit wouldnt sell.

why doesnt Yamaha and roland just stop making hardware keyboards and put there sound sets on the computer and make motif and roland midi controllers ???

Nike shoes without Michael jordans name on them? same nike shoes..$89.00.. Smack jordans name on it.. OH NOW THEY ARE WORTH $150 or more !! lol !!!

You can duct tape an audio interface on the bottom of an mpk49 tote it around with your laptop and you have a ren.. period ! and you'd have better software thats for sure !!

Give us hardware that works with DAW's PLEASE !!!!! With the let down to the majority of ren owners..they better do something different next time. hardware or no hardware. So lets just end this thread on.. "well see what akai does".. :)

see you all after black friday when REN's are going for $399 !!! LOL. Im not responding to this simon character.. go read the orginal post .. the original price range was $2,500 - $2800.. I wasnt the one who ever said it cost $4000 or should cost close to that.. quote me if I did..

The mpc 5000 doesnt sound better then the REN ?? LOL !!!!! put a jacket on your ren bro. its cold..if you cant hear that.. your def. peace

mpc60III wrote:Also a product of such could be sold in tiers to get it to a decent entry level price point. Less hard drive space, ect ect.. could make it cheaper. But the concept is marketable in my eyes.

Does this explain anything to you all. The top tier level could be custom built special order. The others could be mass produced.

You guys keep telling akai what they cant do and keep getting fed crap products..

its almost like its magic or something. Better some of you then me though..real talk

Any difference in sound between the Renaissance and the MPC5000, if there really is any, is in no way caused by the Renaissance being controller/software/audio interface vs the MPC5000 being hardware.. your stupid.

im stupid ??? wow. .this dude is an angry fag .... explain the cause professor dillweed .. please . We'll wait... the ren doesnt have an audio converter ? no ? sigh.. internet tough guys..

Anyhow..there was NO debate actually..until you entered the thread. It was more of a would you want to see it or not.. Then you ren fan boys got all up in arms.. lol..

I make money and work with REAL artist daily without revealing who I really am. so whatever akai does or NOT...wont hurt me whatsoever.. this guy is a piece of work.

To say there is no audible difference in the ren and any hardware unit.. your just dumb.. You've been down under wayyyy to long Mr. "Simoninaustralia"

I dont have time to go back and fourth..lets agree to disagree and wait and see what akai does.. my life doesnt count on it. later m8 :)

This dude cherry picks statements to create a debate..

Here everyone lets tell simon his 100% right. he should work for akai.

Simon...your right buddy. every thing you said in this post is 100% correct. I am sorry I even debated with you. sorry bro.

How dare I.... :smoker:

before I go..can you please to us all how its NOT possible for the 5000 to sound better then the ren ? Please and thank you

You call me def for saying that the Renaissance is cold because it is a computer interface, and a hardware MPC like the MPC5000 is warm because it is standalone hardware...yes, I am calling that stupid.

No anger from me, you seem to have you panties twisted for some reason.

:Sigh: Go back to the start of the thread, there is debate before I entered the thread.

You were saying you want to see it, other were saying not, that is debate.

I am in no way a Renaissance fan boy, and just because someone does not agree with your new hardware MPC rant, that does not make them a Renaissance fan boy in any way.

I am a piece of work because I do not agree with your rant?

mpc60III wrote:To say there is no audible difference in the ren and any hardware unit.. your just dumb.. You've been down under wayyyy to long Mr. "Simoninaustralia"

I am not saying that, you must be dumb.

I am saying that if the Renaissance has a cold sound, then a new hardware MPC will not necessarily have a warmer sound, unless they specifically design it that way.

The Renaissance is a digital sampler/virtual instrument host. It creates digital sounds and converts that to analogue through DA convertors, and records samples through AD convertors.

That is exactly what a new hardware MPC would be doing.

It is not going to automatically sound any warmer if it is a hardware MPC.

mpc60III wrote:I dont have time to go back and fourth..lets agree to disagree and wait and see what akai does.. my life doesnt count on it. later m8 :)

You have more than enough time to go back and forth on your own rant.

My life doesn't count on it, I don't really care, but you seem to very much.
