I think that only matters if your trading or collecting.
If your buying to use it's not so bad.

If I was offered my MPC at the price equivalent to what I've spent over the years I probably wouldn't have bought it, but it didn't seem like I was spending so much as I just got bits and pieces when I could afford them over a few years.

If I was going to sell I'd probably loose money on it, but I have no intention of doing that. If I sold it I'd only want another

It adds up indeed. I got lucky finding 3.10 and scsi board. The cf reader i'll have to buy tho. Quite expensive

I'm thinking maybe an external one i can use that with my 3000 as well

as for the value for money thing - its all very much in the eye of the pocket holder. I've seen second hand preamps/compressors sell for 1K less than retail price second hand, a 3000/60 will hold its value fairly well compared to what you buy it for second hand (not if you bought it new obviously). 2ndhand>2ndhand prices are better than new>2ndhand prices.

if a person wants cheap get a MPC500 (I'll be getting one for the train at some point). 3000/60 are pro machines at pro prices.
