Do You Do This The Moment You Find a Killer Break?

Is it just me, or does anyone else get that "hit the jackpot" feeling when you go on a digging session to get home and find there's some killer drum break on the vinyl.

I picked up a selection of random stuff from a charity shop sale, and one of the records I was about to ditch to the "random shit" pile when all of a sudden a super **** nice break kicked in.

I was like "fuuuuuuuck yes". Felt like the £20 spent was all worth it for that alone.

Just saying. Randomness over.

That is a great feeling. Especially if you don't expect the break and it suddenly come up in the middle of a so and so song.
BUT. I find it hard sometimes when I listen to some new unknown stuff I just bought at the thrift shop and the record is really shitty but then out of a sudden there is a superdope sample. It might be a loop or just a drumroll but the rest of the LP is effin boring shit I wouldn't listen too or sample.
What to do with that kind of records? I got plenty of them and they take so much space. I have the feeling that I need to keep them but then again, they are shitty.

I dont want to bin them because I've paid for them. I don't want to sell them because nobody will buy them.

I guess this is why producers like Damu The Fudgemunk have rows and rows of records on shelves.

I'm going to melt them down into bars of plastic and wait for the price of plastic commodity to rise.

Imight even send em back after using the breaks

^^no way. I find it hard enough to thinkin that you are a few minutes earlier on the flea market and get all the dope records and I only get the effin rest

Yes I do. The feeling is more like "YEAH! These **** ass chumps can't touch me!" Then I look at an old Source magazine with Ice T on the cover and burn out his face with a lighter.

I found a nice break and flute riff on a record a few weeks ago that I'm amazed nobody has used before. It only cost 50p.

i love that feeling, get it more with samples than breaks though. probably cause i would rather use libraries for my drums. but that sample feeling, if its a good one, your just like...**** yeah! and you think that you conquered the world for a while.

i got the dopest sample last week too, had to email an eastern european record company and ask where i could get the record because i couldnt find it anywhere. used google translate to write the email and everything, a few days later, i thought all hope was lost, checked my email and there it was. the holy grail of samples i had spent 3 days scouring the internet for anything about it. they gave me the whole record in .wav files, and told me not to share dont think ill be sharing it.

Once that happens to you, you won't be able to quit diggin'. You are a digger for the rest of your life. I know for sure.

Finding a dope break is like the equivalent of that old man on the beach with a metal detector finding a ring. The whole calm process turns into a festival. Trumpets sound, the doves are released, fireworks go off.....yea...thats how I feel when I find a dope break lolol

Yes always a nice feeling when you find something good, even if its something to listen to, had one of those experiences last night! Bought a lot on ebay for the Herbie Hancock record (with 6 others), and threw on the crusaders I. I expected it to be kinda older doo-woppy soul (It was in a "Soul" lot). Nope, sick funky jazz fusion! Nice grooves all over the place. After listening, I picked it up and noticed two things! It was a double album, and Joe Sample was the keyboardist, so I'm anticipating 40 more minutes of fusion-y goodness when I get home!

The bad thing is when you're going through records high and sample a bunch of stuff you'd never use sober. I was like "Sick, I found like 20 samples yesterday!" Then I listened to em and only one was useful hahah

Usually when I listen for grooves, loops and/or breaks I am playing a videogame, reading or surfing the net.

when I find a dope sample I immediately grab a posted note, write down the Side of the record and the track title and then a small note as to what type of sample it is and the general time-stamp. and then just continue listening to the record. real un-awe inspiring but 9/10 times I normal search for samples one day and chef up beats on another.
