MPC: Sample In or MIDI

Hey,

Just wondering, how many of you guys sample in a keyboard hit or sound and then play out the melody on the pads?
Or do you guys prefer to MIDI up your keyboard and play the melody from the keys?

When I first started, I use to MIDI up my keyboard to my MPC 3000, it was ehhh okaaay, but once I discovered to sample in a hit of a sound from the keyboard and bang it out on the pads, I found I got a lot more done.

Just a thought.

Just try both, see what you like. Both have some advantages.

Sampling it is easy for saving the synth sound/patch and the sample can be manipulated ofcourse.

Good thing of not sampling is that it doesn't take up you ram or polyphony. And you can tweak and edit any sound on your synth if you desire.

Maybe look into sending program changes for dailing up a patch when you load a song on your mpc.

If the synth I'm using has limited polyphony, I sample single notes and make a keygroup. If its not multi-timberal but polyphony isn't a problem, I sample the recorded midi. Sometimes I do entire songs using midi and sample the results to make it sound more like I snatched it off vinyl or somethin. Sometimes I just want to use the filters and efx from the mp. All depends on the sound I'm after.

honestly i do both so i can adapt to any live situation quickly.

the sampled program might not be the exact same, but i get it where it works too.

i just love the flexibility of using midi, but the convenience of doing it all in the xl.
