midi track recorded to an audio track

I think you are asking for resampling (forgive me if I am wrong). Yo go to sample record and there where it puts external choose resample. then record then press play. stop when it finishes and you have your midi triggered instrument in a audio file.
Hope that is what you were asking for.

For clarity what I posted is if you want to make a MIDI file with pitched notes from an audio file.

Yeah.. they definitely need to add bounce in place.

You have your midi tracks with a hardware or a vst going on, you edit it and when you're happy you can convert into audio in 2 clicks. it will freeze the midi one, it will be greyed/muted and you could still raise it up if you needed to come back to it later.
It allows to unload cpu charge and use monotimbral hardware.

**** audio tracks, it is a sequence based MPC, not a linear time based DAW.

MPC Software already has tracks that play back audio, drum tracks and keygroup tracks.

It needs to be able to record new samples in sync with existing sequences.

The Direct Recording/Place Event feature seems more appropriate to the MPC sequence based workflow, and much easier to implement.

Akai should implement that before audio tracks.

I don't think anyone meant audio tracks per se in this topic. Just converting miditrack to a sample.. That would drop the re-sampling part and would make the workflow better.

Well what i want exactly is :

when i have a midi sequence playing with my hardware or software synth, have an option to create immediately a sample of the sequence (and only this one) onto the next unused track, and mute instantly the midi track.

Currently i have to mute all tracks except the midi sequence, go to sample rec, play it, edit it, back to main view, switch track mode, remove midi notes, place sample...

It could be so much easier only with this.

Previous hardware MPCs had a feature called Direct Recording/Place Event.

This automatically placed an event in the sequencer to trigger the newly recorded sample in sync with the sequence, in the same place in the sequence that the recording was started.

I think that an expanded Direct Recording/Place Event feature could be setup to do what you want.

It could have a trim mode, so that you could trim off the start of the sample, before placing the event into the sequencer to trigger it at the correct newly-trimmed location.

I would also like to see the trim mode be able to trim to sequence quantize points, and have a preset punch in/out setting.

You can do that but it depends. Sometimes you want to record 2 midi tracks together from 2 instruments, or more.
And anyways, after your sample is up, you will mute the midi one or erase it so it doesn't matter. You have to do many steps.

What would be nice to implement is an easy and fast conversion. Say you have a "convert to sample" button on your midi track, and when you press it, it will :
- mute every other tracks
- create another track for a sample and a new program
- create instantly a sample of the midi track and your instrument and place it on the new one
- "freeze"/mute the midi track
- demute other tracks
- tell you "Sample X was assigned to program X", "Track X was created"

All that with one button. I don't wanna sound lazy, that's what studio one and cubase and many DAW actually do with "freeze" option, except they are creating audio tracks.
