windows 8 compatibility ?

I have a Touchscreen Sony VAIO All in one and the MPC app works great with it.

Hey Louie Lou, do you have issues with your VAIO picking up room noise. The Ren is cool and intuitive so far but I've tried to sample internal audio from my Vaio and it picks up room noise. I'm guessing it's through the web cam mic.

What do you mean by "Internal Audio"? Give me some steps if possible so that I can duplicate them.

When I'm trying to sample from anything that I have running in the Vaio (say for instance a media player) I pickup the noise from the room. I'm sure it must be through the web cam although if I stick an adapter (just an adapter with no lead or anything attached) into the 3.5 mm jack in the Vaio it stops picking up noise but I still hear static when my headphones are plugged into the Ren. I'm sure I need to keep reading the Renaissance manual and perhaps give Sony tech support a call. With my old laptop I used to run audio straight into the back of my 2000xl and this was never a problem. I'm a computer moron and this is now going totally off topic.

Close the MPC software. Go in windows control pannel, Sound, Recording, try to find 'Stereo Mix' or something similar in the inputs list, then click Set Default. Reopen MPC software. This is how to do it with windows 7.. If your soundcard doesn't have 'Stereo Mix' or something similar you will have to use an audio cable between the computer and renaissance and sample like you would do from other hardware.

You can also right click on your speaker icon on the task bar and select "Recording Devices" then go to the Recording tab and highlight the microphone device and select properties. Go to the "Levels" tab and mute the microphone or move the level to "0".

You can do this with the playback tab also.

I messed around with all the settings the other night and did a bunch of trial and error (emphasis on error) stuff but nothing seemed to work. I'll sit down and try your suggestions tonight and see how I get on. Windows 8 definitely takes some getting used to.

I picked up a Surface Pro 2 about 2 weeks ago. it is an amazing machine. More powerful than i would have thought.... Highly recommend!

I see that some people say they have Ren working with Windows 8 but no mention of how. Did anyone do anything specific to get it to run properly? My personal issue is latency. I can't seem to get it to a manageable level. Any ideas/suggestions?

My system is a 2.4 Ghz Intel i7 quad-core with hyperthreading, 64-bit with 8GB of RAM.

I have similar setup, except my core i7 is lesser gen cause its less than 2.4 Ghz and dual core, but hyperthreaded. (I know I should have got latest i7, but got a decent price on a new 17 inch laptop with that configuration.)

I didn't do anything special. Popped DVD in, installed software, bank, and 809 VSTs and been off to the races. Every time I launch software, I use whatever the buffer defaults to each time and it's been fine, or I have just been lucky

Ok, I got rid of the latency (although only momentarily). I updated the firmware and it starts off just fine but after about 10-15 minutes of usage the latency creeps in. This is not only from triggering but when I hit the play button there's a significant delay between the scrolling in the software and the actual sound of the track (ranging from 1 to 2 beats behind).

Is there anything in the OS that I may need to disable that would support the resolution of my issue? I don't want to fully optimize my machine for recording/audio as I have regular usage of it as a computer, lol. (I thought the days of having to do this were at/near an end, oh well)

I'm not a newbie at this which is why it's a bit disturbing that I can't resolve it on my own. Any input would be appreciated.
