CF card??

Today im buying a card reader for my computer and I need to get a cf card. After doing a google search Im finding that the 2000XL doesnt read anything past 1gb but then I also see some say different so can anyone please clarify what size card I should get. And what brands have you had experience with.

pretty sure if you've got a scsi card reader, you can use almost any size card.

if you have something else, you can get almost any size, but you partition it as 1gb, and that's all you can use.

there are still other options - but those are the most popular.

Yeah the MCD I have is the hotswappable one from mpcstuff so I guess it wont really matter if I get a 1 or 2gb.

Depends if you run OS 1.14 or 1.20.

1.14 will let you format the card in multiple partitions, to a total over 1GB.

1.20 will force an IDE/ATAPI connected card reader to format as a single 'PC' partition to a maximum size of 1GB.

1.14 gives you more storage space, 1.20 gives you better MPC-computer transfer compatibility.

worth saying again and again - make sure your filenames in the mpc are 8 characters or less
also if you plug the card into a mac it could render it temporarily unusable.

i use a virtual box running xp if i must connect it to a mac...otherwise i just use a pc.

So I have a 1gb Transcend and all im getting is Not Ready! Maybe this card is just not compatible?

People have have reported mixed results with the Transcend brand card and better results using Sandisk cards.

If you have the hot-swappable reader sold from MPCSTUFF you need OS 1.20 installed in your MPC as stated on their sales page.

also worth checking on the computer in disk manager / utility - i've had a card once that wouldn't get recognised in the mpc until i partitioned and formatted it first via the computer

I can also confirm a 1.20 reader and the Sandisk 2GB ones formatted at 1GB in the XL itself work perfectly. Lexars worked well too, but it was easier for me to find 2GB Sandisks, a lot of the Lexars these days are 4GB and up, that's just too wasteful with the formatting limit.

I have a MPC 2000xl MCD and it wont allow me to format a 15mb Sandisk CF card. It says not ready when i got to the format menu. I have the 1.2 OS. Thanks for any help.
