I've had an original 2000 since '97 and the floppy drive just crapped out on me .

?1 . Is there a specific type of floppy drive that I have to get to replace it (just so when I get to the computer store me & the guy behind the counter don't look @ each other like idiot's because I don't know sh!t about computers & he doesn't know what an MPC2000 is) .

?2 . Can I put a zip in the front like everyone's doing w/ xl's ?

A friend of mine replaced his floppy a couple of years ago & said it was easy . But if anyone on here has run into complications doing this procedure please let me know so I don't make the same mistakes . Thanks . Peace .

It is a regular pc floppy drive that you can find in any computer store. Buy 1, open up your 2k, unplug the power and ribbon cable and swap out the drive, simple.

No, the 2k doesn't have an IDE connector on the motherboard like the 2kxl does, no internal zip happenin there homie.. Your only choice would be scsi..

Thanks for the heads up . You can find external scsi CD-roms for cheap on eBay . I got a zip100 and a CD-rom deal for a little more than a $100 , and the guy sent me a CD w/ about 50 drum kits (mostly synthy stuff but there were some dope bass programs & hats) . Peace .

Thanks again to Lampdog & DJ Ambush . Just put the drive in yesterday and it was one of the easiest repairs I've made . $16 for the drive & maybe 40 minutes worth of work and everything works fine . Peace .

You would be surprised at how many people are SCARED to do something as simple as what you just did. It's like they think the MPC is going to bite them in the azz..

Pad A to left buttcheek
and
Pad B to right buttcheek  .

"Your only choice would be scsi.."

Specifically, 'Your only choice would be external scsi.'
