In the video you posted above, he says that he gets a better sound through the Mackie, using the Mackie EQ to tune the sound how he wants it.
This is not a software MPC vs hardware MPC comparison at all.
He incorrectly thinks that he has to use the Mackie to make it sound good.
You can get better sounding EQs from plugins than you can from a Mackie 8 Bus mixing desk.
He may be used to the Mackie EQ, but that doesn't mean it sounds better than going into an audio interface and using EQ plugins instead.
Every hardware unit sounds different, an MPC60 sounds warm/fatter/etc. because it uses a low sample rate, compressed 16 bit depth, and because of it's particular AD/DA convertors and analogue circuitry, of which the input is often overdriven to give a particular 'fat' sound.
A modern hardware MPC, such as an MPC4000 or MPC5000, is not going to sound any better than software playing through an audio interface with similar circuit design.
You seem to be stuck on this incorrect theory that hardware automatically sounds better/fatter/etc. than software.

Doesn't the mere fact that he has to put "effects" on a mix from a hardware composition mean that they are actually much the same, he has to put hardware EQ onto his hardware MPC because it doesn't sound good enough out of the box?

This 'actual mpc' theory is bullshit.
An MPC is a digital sampler, the sound is a factor of the input/AD, internal processing, and DA/output circuitry.
The sound comes from the convertors and I/O circuitry, whether it is an MPC or a computer audio interface.
Put the same AD/DA convertors and analogue I/O circuitry in a computer interface, as what is in an MPC, and they will sound the same.
Your everything hardware sounds better than software is an outdated point of view, it just doesn't apply anymore.

You can do ALOT more in the software world. But.. OUT the box software does NOT sound as good as Hardware.
Digital software sounds as good as digital hardware, if they use the same I/O circuitry.
A hardware MPC is a computer with an audio interface, running sequencer and sampler software, just like a computer setup for audio.

Yes, and they also don't care about this sort of hardware/software argument, they don't want expensive dedicated hardware, they want software/controllers because it is cheap and integrated.
