Is Activation Code linked to hardware or software?

I just ordered an MPC Renaissance to try it out for a couple of days and then decide if I want to keep it or send it back. Now since activated software usually can not be returned I am curious whether the activation serial for the software is linked to the hardware somehow? Because I did not install the software that came with the MPC package today but instead downloaded it from Akais Homepage. The included DVDs are still untouched.

So to sum things up: If I activate the downloaded software and decide to return the MPC, will the next person to use it be able to activate the included software DVDs or will my activation of the downloaded software somehow make this impossible?

Couldn't find anything about this in the forums and would appreciate any help.

It activates the license over the internet with Akai.

It is linked to your hardware, and software.

The software is activation is based on having the connected hardware, and is linked to that particular hardware.

You automatically get 4 activations with it, and need to contact Akai to have them reset if/when you use them up.

Just use an activation, any future buyer, or a store you return it to, will not know, and if they use the other 3, they can just ask Akai to reset them.

You can install and activate it without opening the original software packaging, if that is a concern, just install the software and drivers from the update downloads on the Akai website.
