A good way to picture what I've been talking about with the Song Mode in the MPC can be found in part of the NI review you guys posted.

Using that video I wanted to help you visualize how the Song Record or better said (Performance Record) could work in the MPC.

In this Example from NI Maschine 2.0 Review, at around 6:55, you see the guy triggering the Scenes in a live manner.

Now the mode I'm talking about would be recording that live Scene Triggering. Again, much like what we see with the Cakewalk programs I showed above. Lets refer to it for now as MPC R-Mix.

R-Mix would allow you to record all your Sequence triggers, even recording things like Sequence Retriggers, Use pads to start/stop a sequence and create what I call 'Sequence Stops' (or breaks/pauses in the song).

It could even allow for live tracking into the R-Mix Song, such as playing in a Solo instrument or a Riff.

This method of song creation intrigues me as it absolutely induces and ignites the creative mode for me, and I believe it would do the same for others!

The benefit of the MPC R-Mix mode would be fast song/remix creation, it's essentially a 'how you performed it is how it'll play back' mode for the MPC.

This sounds like adding some additional functionality to Next Sequence Mode which does let you record a live performance of triggering multiple sequences which can later be converted to a Song.

I can't see why anyone wouldn't want a feature like this in the MPC.

It's 2013 and people request features because others mention them not because they understand or require them.

So if you got a lot of people to make videos about why they need this feature and who would use it then you would all of a sudden have people fussing about why they can't live without it.

:hmmm: I see so like using the sequence like a drum hit type of style while recording in song mode. Yep that's dope. We need that. I mean that's a dope feature, who wouldn't use it? :? Probably simple to add not sure tho.

It's like firing Clips in LIVE.
This was one of the things people complained about with Maschine and not being able to trigger Scenes like LIVE does Clips.

It doesn't play the sequence it triggers it meaning you can constantly retrigger a sequence based on what you have your quantize set for or freely when set to off.

Think of it more like if you just have samples of your sequences on your 16 pads and are triggering them but instead you would have your actual sequence on the pad.

Next Sequence is kinda an outdated thought process since even Immediate doesn't give you retriggering ability like a Pad Sequencer does.

Kinda surprised Akai missed out on this feature when they went software.

Now you're seeing what I'm getting at. A Monster feature for a system like the MPC!

Not only could it retrigger the Sequences, but you could fire them like a One Shot, or even use the Pad to start the Sequence, then hit it again to stop it... again creating that "PAUSE" in a Song.

I want this feature to find its way to the MPC so badly, and I too am amazed it isn't already there.

I'll try and Photoshop some imagery up for you guys to help you think about what you like about the idea or even what may be missing from the concept.

Akai, MPC R-Mix can seriously help you squelch your competitors efforts, if you're browsing the Forums today, you should seriously look into implementing this! And before 'they' do!!! F5 - "Do It!"

It was actually one of the features that made me upgrade my MV8000 to the MV8800,
I was looking to use it in live performances.

It was pretty useful until I changed from Serato and started using Traktor.

Here's another aspect of this method that I'd like to make it in with the implementation of a feature like this.

Sequence 'Trigger Modes' All having fast switching modes, perhaps using Q-Links...

These Should include: Trigger on Next Beat, Immediately and Next Bar

There needs to also be a Sequence Sync Mode for the following:

* Sync by Position (Which causes the next Sequence to trigger in position with the previous sequence based of the current Bar)

* Sync by Tempo(which always starts a Sequence from the beginning (First Bar) when triggered)

Finally, it should have a Sequence Latch option:

Turned on, causes a Sequence to continue to play when triggered by a Pad

Turned Off, a Sequence will stop immediately when the corresponding Pad is released

All these can remain governed by the MPC swing and perhaps even the quantize settings.

I do have to say, Jah you're kinda right, Next Sequence almost has these elements, but they work nothing like they would here. There's no ability to create those Pauses/Breaks by start/stopping a Sequence.

You can't stutter a Sequence and you can't change to the next sequence in sync with the previous sequence by Bar; Sequences in Next Sequence only start from the 1st Bar.

We also don't have any ability to record a Live Linear track into the Next Sequence...

So Next Sequence really pans out to be just another Step Sequencer, but in this case a step Sequencer for Sequences.

Here's a Photoshop visual of the MPC R-Mix concept Image

Perhaps it'll help everyone see clearly what it would bring to the table for all MPC users.

I like it. I have a similar idea which would allow you to 'beat juggle' between multiple sequences.
By masada2502 Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:21 pm
great minds think alike I pitched a similar idea to Dan the day I got the 1.5 footage.

this would be epic !

note repeat button to repeat sequences, qlinks to change the glitch or stutter ,even a filter to affect the overall song mode for filter sweeps...dope!!

I started a thread asking if any MPC could do something like this but your post is far more eloquent.

This would be revolutionary (for MPC users) if this was implemented and would take the Renaissance into a whole other realm of possibilities.

Please make this happen Akai...please.

Glad it falls in line with what you're looking for as well. Feel free to jump in on the official request thread with any comments, ideas or suggestions that may help flesh it out and truly represent what we would all really like to see it become!

I strongly believe this could change the MPC forever, and for the better! It would also place it eons ahead of the competition ... I'll be watching this one closely and pushing heavily for it to happen!

Did anyone notice that you can select your sequences with the numeric keypad?

Just hit the number and press enter and it will be the next sequence to play!

I only discovered this today by accident and it helps me using the dial less (& help it's longevity)
