I had both and I have recently been checking ebay and craigslist for a steal on a 2K XL... Not rushing to get, but I will if I can catch a come up on one.

The 2k knocked some(well a noticeable chunk) of the high's off and had a warmer, muddy sounding low end. The 2k colored the sound some. Say what you want about them sounding the same and it all being the user, but that's not true. If you tweak your samples enough they'll sound the same or similar, but they don't sound the same untreated.

Yep. That's the main sonic difference..the Harsh highs of the 2500 and 1000. The drums sound fuller on the 2KXL and the swing is better.

That makes zero sense.

It`s an analog thing. MPC 60. Even better.

All the MPC's and Akai racksamplers have digital sampling engines.

The difference I hear has been said already, the 1k is a little harsh on the high end. The 2kXL not so much, if anything it needs a little brightness never the less it lets the drums sound pretty nice because of it. Not as great as a 3k though.

They are characters, those new machines are just imitators lacking warmth. When you go with the analog setup you are looking for warmth in sound. Campfire crackles from old vinyl, cutted high ends, little nuclear blasts on a tape, warmth not 1`s on 0`s. I`m a freak, you guys may have your own opinions about this. :D

....that said, I think digital has it`s own beauty. With digital you can make awesome million selling album just with one finger and an apple laptop like Srillex did. It`s all good. Brain is still the main thing.

edit. scratch that nuclear blasts on a tape part. The characters are having sex and new universes are born on the tape. Just like in a big bang theory. ...yeah, that it is all about.

Oh I get it, on some sort of alternative philosophical wank trip, you can keep your mental jizz for you and your mates, not really interested in it.

There's some sig worthy nonsense being flung on this page.

Somebody needs to read up on how sound works...

But he's a freak so maybe his MPC has some VCF we ain't knowing about...

I agree entirely with your findings, especially noticing the same from my own experience. I always had a problem with how harsh the 1000 sounds with high frequencies. There really is a noticeable difference between the 2000 and the 1000, as you mention, and I'm glad to be back with the 2000. It makes me enjoy sampling again. I wouldn't be able to get the warmth I do on the 2000 if I sampled my drums with the input running hot on the 1000. It's too sterile and produces more high-end artifacts and undesirable clipping. The 2000 is my MPC of choice. If I had money for a 3000, it would be a different story. 8)
