Linux isn't supported natively.. Its not worth the time and effort if you want to make beats...

If you want to try to see if it works then go for it.... Good luck trying to hack wine to get it to work....

I find the Surface Pro 2 makes Maschine and MPC Studio feel "stand alone". The Ren of course you have to have a plug in, so it's not really "stand alone"....

Every hardware standalone mpcs have to have a current plug. FYI.

One day...just one day, when everything is alright and up to date on the PC/Mac softwares...we may see a tablet edition of the mpc software. Then no one will care if it is standalone or not. You're just gonna use your 7" tablet which loads in a second anywhere anytime, launch your app and host everything you need there. Then no one will care if your MPC is a standalone or not.

But when they develop touch pressure screens.. THings are gonna change alot and alot of companies mite just be software developers...

Why make a hardware controller and invest in the stock to manufactuer when apple/samsung already do it...

You could potentially design your own mpc(pad and slider layout) on a touch pressure screen/ipad/tablet....
This is what i would be looking into if i was akai. And jumping on reall quick.

Or mpc app controller for mpc software on pc or mac... Similar to what logic x has done...

And i do not consider them stand alone (except 500 of course). if i have to plug it in i might as well be in the studio hooked up to every thing else.

Come on i was talking about the full featured mpc software on iPad and your real mpc renaissance/studio plugged on your iPad.

I have impc on iPhone it' s a fun toy...

Well I wouldn't be for this but after using beat maker 2 on ipad I would def use a touch sensitive glass screen if the tech was available. but I will always prefer rubber pads..

The standalone concept (unit as one not unit needing to be tethered to a central computer)
for me is more like the unit is it's own instrument.. IT has it's own computer seperate from your daw tracking computer. This for me has much more benefits than tryning to have one computer to run every midi controller/ software device..
The main being if your computer fails, then you can't make anything/be creative at all. At least having things seperate you can still mess around with the instruments that still work while the other gets fixed...

I really hope roger linn Does another sampling sequencer.
