What's up all. I am almost complete with this MPC 60 project, but I have an issue. I just purchased a floppy drive from Route66 and when I try to format a disk it reads no disk in floppy drive ERROR CODE: FF80. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is my floppy cable bad I mean what could it be? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,
D. James

I get that every once in a while, eject the disk, pop it back in and press the disc button again

repeat that a couple times and if it doesn't work the disc might be bad, try another.

hope this helps

HD disks may work if you do the lil tab trick or whatever, but it definitely isnt worth risking your drive... DD disks are a wise investment...

" I just purchased a floppy drive from Route66"

"error code"

These two things seems to happen quite often together.

yes they do.... ive had it, i just broke down and took my 60II to VST, $140 for the new disk drive, and $110 for the new backlight... i was exploring other options, but im tired of worrying about it... time to get that ish working right so i can get to work...

but if i were you DJAMES, id invest in the DD disks, using HD disks is bad for your drive no matter what ROUTE66 says... they are pretty cheap replacement drives through them though compared to VST... too bad they dont work with the OS upgrade...

Yeah I'm going to go ahead and invest in the DD disk, but the funny thing is that when I put a HD disk that has been formatted on an MPC 60 in the drive it loads the files fine it just won't let me format a regular HD disk even with tape over the right hole. I'm only going to use DD disk though hell i can get 50 for $10 + shipping so there's really no excuse not to.
