Which MPC does this stuff?

Hi, I need some assistance.

Here is what I wanna do: Live I will play guitar/sing. Before the song starts I will just press play on the MPC and it will play the song that I have preprogrammed into it. In that song I want the MPC to play drum tracks as well as send midi to a rack synth going out to the PA. I would like to be able to use this method for a whole set. I after a song is done playing I wanna be able to scroll over to the next song and just push play on the fly (does this exist in an MPC?). I know The Kills use an MPC live and they have the same basic setup that I am talking about. Not sure which to get.

As far as samples go, I know how to drag and drop wave files, so I would like to be able to do THAT as well as sample from a turntable or a microphone.

I DON'T want to use a laptop on stage.

Soooooooo, with the information given, which of the MPC's would be the one I would need?

The only hardware MPC that allows dragging and dropping directly to pads is the 4000. That might be overkill to act as a simple backing to your band though.

A 1K or 2500 with a CF card full of samples gets the job done and are much more portable.

Thanks for the suggestions, Coz. I figured that some of the bigger models were possibly gonna be an overkill for what I am wanting to use it for. I just found an MPC 1000 in great shape and for a great deal so I got it.

OK, so for my live performances, what would be a practical way to do song switching? I am not gonna be doing any altering to the drums that are gonna be playing. Would I have 2 or 3 songs per CF card and then have to have some kind of "intermission" so I can load backing tracks? or is it possible to have as many as I needed all loaded in for one set and then switch over to the NEXT song after the first is finished playing like with a jog wheel.

OR

Would I assign one "song" to each pad and after one "song" is finished hit the next pad. We are talking' 3-4 minute pop songs.

I know this probably sounds like basic noob stuff but I can find practically no information on the internet for what I am trying to do.

If you are planning to playback stereo audio full length backing tracks, be aware that the MPC1000 has a 128MB memory limit.

At 10MB per minute, for stereo 44.1kHz/16-bit audio files, that should allow you to load approximately 12.5 minutes of stereo audio files for playback at a time.

Loading up the next set of files might take a while, I think loading from CF on the MPC1000 is pretty slow, loading from an internal hard drive might be quicker.

The MPC is more designed to compose tracks using individual drum hits and shorter samples, and is not really designed to playback full length backing track audio files, though it will do it without a problem, you are just limited by maximum available memory.

mpc5000 is probably gonna be the option that you want..

As it can stream long files via hd player and can run a midi sequence as part of a song..

If you totally resequenced the whole song in the mpc with smaller loops, you mite be able to get away with 1k..

To add to the 1k, a boss rc300 would add long streaming file capaibilties.. Plus the fact that you could do some live looping ...(even though the rc300 is a loop pedal, you can use it to run long files like whole songs, and tell it to play them as one shots instead of loopng. I think the total storage is like 3 hours worth) If you gett jjos xl you can set pads to send cc messages which the rc300 can recieve and assign to play stop next patch/ etc..)
